At his most basic, Irons archetype is the repentant sinner who did wrong and is attempting to be better. Ton of characters fit that as you say.

Perhaps after the final battle for this season, John will gain a new found respect for this Superman and perhaps become inspired by him, thus S shield, cape, and the works...I have to figure out how to make the helmet shaped like his face but for now I'll settle with the Master Chief look. I really want them to become friends rather than uneasy acquaintances.

The pics of the final battle look like they’re on the same side against Edge and Leslie, very curious to see how it all plays out. Sucks that we have to wait two weeks for the next episode
