I just went back and re-read the last incarnation of Astonishing X-Men. Outside of using his powers to absorb psychic energy and using his powers to break his fall, Bishop did as much there as he's done in Marauders. The difference is he appeared in more issues of Astonishing while still doing nothing.

Still I notice how they said that Bishop converted the energy building up from his fall to different kinds of energy so that's something were should be seeing alot more of.

Also, Bishop should have kicked Logan's ass. He's already done it before so why does X think Bishop couldn't handle him.

How would we describe Bishops mutant powers? Energy absorption and transmutation?

I believe his power is always on. I think during Fatal Attractions, when Magneto held the gathered heroes within a field, Bishop was passively absorbing the energy, allowing them to escape.

I think Bishop may have even beaten Magneto if not for Peter intervening.

During CC's tenure with Bishop, it was implied that Bishop was fully trained in being able to eliminate various mutant heavyweights, like Magneto.

Bishop handily defeated Logan in mock combat, and called Creed a lightweight.
