Nate Grey - X-Man & Mutant Shaman Appreciation

I noticed that another one of my favorites, Nate Grey didn't have his own appreciation thread so here's one!

Nate Grey aka X-Man aka Shaman of the Mutant Tribe first appeared in X-Man #1 (1995)

He is one of the few escapees from an alternate reality called Age of Apocalypse and the genetic offspring of Jean Grey and Scott Summers aka Cyclops. he was created by Sinister and later saved by Magneto and Forge, who became mentor and a father figure to Nate Grey. During the final showdown of the classic crossover story X-Man fought Apocalypse's son Holocaust and after stabbing him with a shard of M'Kraan crystal they were both transported to 616 reality.

X-Man continued his adventures in 616 and had his own solo that lasted for 75 issues before being cancelled. In the end Nate sacrificed his own life to stop an alien invasion and it seemed that he was dead for good but he made a surprise comeback by pulling his body back together during Dark Reign and fought Norman Osborn's Dark X-Men before being captured.

Later he was nearly depowered by Sugar Man's machine when he was forced to open a dimensional portal. After this he joined the ranks of New Mutants squad when they saved him. He stayed with the team until their title was cancelled and he hasn't been seen since but it's probably just a matter of time before he reappears.

Reading X-Man: the man who fell to earth and Nate jumping between stormclouds like a featherlight hulk is just cool.
Love that his girlfriend is a deathenergy vampire while he has powers that flare out of control and are a deathsentence.
Also has the distinction of being the only X character with a successful ongoing while not being a member of any team beforehand

I allways thought that Hope Summers would be his and Trenody's kid.

X-man was my first marvel subscription. I loved that series plus Roger Cruz was definitely at the top of his game when he drew those issues. It's just too bad what happened to him in New Mutants. I understand that he had gotten too powerful but they went a little overboard when he could barely lift a paper weight. I hope if he comes back he won't be so weak.

Good interesting insanely powerful character. I am guessing the fact his backstory was "too weird" combined with him being "too powerful" is what caused his demise so to speak. It was really strange seeing him in a few panels during AvX , without even any dialogue at all. It was like.. how the once-mighty have fallen. Such is life in the comix biz

I would really like a family reunion at some point and for Nate, Cable, and Rachel to have a sit down talk. Maybe if "you know who" ever leaves a "certain room" and returns to life she may gather the family up together for family time or even an epic adventure.

Stryfe isn't invited though for obvious reasons.

Yeah thats part of the problem for Nate Grey, is how insanely similar he really is to Stryfe overall. Except he was "raised good" or whatever but power-wise and like DNA-wise he should basically be the same exact thing as Stryfe, which is pretty redundant...
