That would suck. It would detract from Mandarin as devious, savage, exploitative threat who wields political/economic/organizational power. Mandarin works best when you keep the rings moderate in power, allowing the character himself to shine.

Sort of. He's really obscure though--he only ever appeared once before, in MARVEL FANFARE #44, and even then only for a few pages. Cantwell is doing a serious continuity deep cut for that one!

He could still be all of those things, as it’s his will that controls the rings. They could always have limitations because they’re just small shards.

He said in an interview he was going to dig deep into continuity. I am very pleased with the outcome so far.
