Originally, it appears as if DC may have planned to keep much of his Charlton backstory intact, but by the time he got his own series at DC, that changed. However, some of his original Charlton adventures were used as a fictitious history for public disclosure.

"We can exclusively share that there will be two Blue Beetles in the film. The film will focus on Jamie Reyes and his origin, but it will also include Ted Kord who will act as a mentor to Reyes. Think similarly to the relationship that Hank Pym and Scott Lang shared in the Ant-Man films. Currently, there is no actor attached to the role of Kord.

We can also exclusively share that the villains will be none other than The Reach. The Reach is a group of cybernetic insectoid aliens who in the comics are closely associated with the creation of the Blue Beetles. So their inclusion points to an origin story of sorts for the Blue Beetles.

Not surprising that The Reach will be the bad guys. Having a good villain connected to his origin story is one of Jaime's strengths as a character. Hell, they based a whole season of Young Justice around The Reach invasion.

I wonder if the Ted/Jaime dynamic will be similar to what Giffen did in the last series.

Black Beetle would be super cool. The Reach needs to have an enforcer for Jaime to overcome.
