You could have a satellite go down in a place like Monster Island and Carol and Starlight are sent by their respective governments to claim it.

The power of the Phoenix should have remained with Rachel Summers, who should have returned to her own timeline to liberate it. Jean Grey should have stayed DEAD in Marvel-616(in the same manner as Gwen Stacy). There should be only ONE host of the Phoenix Force: Rachel Summers. When Marvel decided to create X-Factor(1986), Rachel should had been revealed as the 5th member of the team who goes back to her Days of Future's Past timeline to free it. Once the job's done, the 4th surviving original X-Men return to their timeline. A lost opportunity...

"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."
I will say Kelly writes the best interpersonal relationships between female characters today. She’s the Chris Claremont of her day.
Ship's sailed on Miles, as sending him back means him saying goodbye to the Champions, and him and Ms. Marvel are the two members that team simply cannot do without. Gwen can go back when she loses her popularity though, as she actually has the ability to cross universes (usually - it malfunctioned in her King in Black mini, bringing her Mary Jane to 616 instead of taking Gwen back to Earth-65).
