Well, Skyfathers used to be powerful. Not anymore, of course if you've seen Odin and Zeus lately these last 10+ years. Of course, like the Phoenix, I never considered Skyfathers to be on the same level as the Celestials or Galactus.
Still, given what's revealed about Hulk when he becomes The Breaker of Worlds, if he wasn't to fully unleash himself and doesn't wish to be stopped, then nothing can or will stop him. Thus why TOBA wants and needs him.
The most powerful malevolent being in all the omniverse, in all of creation controlling and wielding the ultimate weapon in the form of a being with infinite strength and power potential.

I'm not a marvel guy, I mean I like daredevil and I am familiar with his history, mostly cause Frank miller. Having said that I know nothing about hulk, aside from the mcu. However I am a big body horror fan and this series has peaked my interest. Can I jump into this run cold and if not what do I or new readers need to know? Is there a synopsis of hulks history somewhere I can read?
I know new guy, only jumping on the hip thing. I've been the jerk snapping at guys jumping on a hip dc book, now I know what it feels like..
YouŽll love it.
You could jump in without problems, but I would say you could read the self-contained (small) Avengers event called Avengers:No Surrender. Ewing introduces the Immortal Hulk concept there. Not only it's a great read, it enriches your experience, in my opinion.
That depends on who is writing them and if they nerf them or not, Aaron has nerfed Odin by explaining how his OF has weakened, but before that he still had him wrestle with a cosmic storm that was consuming entire galaxies. Skyfathers may not be on the level of Celestials or Galactus but they are FAR above heroes like Hulk.
This is pure headcannon, TOBA does not want Hulk because he can unleash some hidden power or anything like that, The Breaker of Worlds form Hulk has isn't even Hulk, he is dead even his soul is consumed it's just TOBA using his dead husk, at that point he could have overtaken Peter Parker or Leader or anyone else and achieve the same result.
I think you are reaching hard with those descriptions there.
The series actually fills you in on most Hulk history you need to know, there are other things that are treats if you're a lore dork but they have no barring to the story.
Immortal Hulk #0 is actually a reprint of two Hulk issues the writer wanted people to read to contextualize the story more, so you'll get a lil there, but I dont think you should read it till issue 32 or so because there are some spoilers to the main story that weave between the two reprints.
The first year or so of IMMORTAL is perhaps easier to jump into; the second deals a great deal more with Hulk's lore and supporting cast, such as throwing another of Hulk's personas into the mix (but in a fresh way) and clarifying that the current Hulk is actually a persona introduced in the early 00's, the "Devil Hulk".
Here's a sort of rough thing I can try to sum up for those jumping in.
Basically, Bruce Banner was badly abused as a kid, and also his father killed his mother. This caused him to start to manifest split personalities, although they are kept mostly dormant for his life until he becomes a brilliant scientist, creating the gamma bomb. However, Banner is exposed to his weapon's radiation after saving a teenager who had wondered onto the site.
Through various stimuli; sometimes anger, sometimes night, sometimes just willpower, this causes Banner's split personas to usually manifest as big, muscular, super-strong green monsters, pretty much known collectively as The Hulk. The most well-known incarnation is the Savage Hulk, a childlike but temperamental incarnation. Others have included the craftier and Grey Skin Joe Fixit, who managed to be a Las Vegas Casino enforcer for a while; the "Merged" Hulk or Professor, who mostly stayed within the Hulk form and was one of the more heroic personas; and the Green Scar, an extremely powerful Hulk who became king on the Harsh planet of Sakaar, and even was the first incarnation to be a father. Of course Banner is still around as well, most of the time, sometimes attempting to cure himself of his alter ego, which occasionally is successful but usually is undone.
Hulk's rampages have of course caused a lot of destruction, and made him an enemy of the military at times (Mostly General Ross, his eventual father-in-law and later a Hulk himself) and he has an unstable relationship with the rest of the superhero community, despite being a founding Avenger and often a member of the Defenders. Like a lot of heroes he's had an on-again, off-again supporting cast usually, Rick Jones (The teen he saved) Betty, his main love interest and estranged wife (Daughter of General Ross, also has multiple gamma incarnations over the years) and Doc Samson, his long-suffering psychologist who has gamma powers as well. He also has a paternal cousin, Jennifer Walters, the She-Hulk, who Bruce gave a blood transfusion to which turned into a Hulk, although until recently a far more mentally stable one.
Recently, during one of the periods when the Hulk was 'cured', a prophecy during the Civil War II event hinted that he would become the Hulk again and cause more damage, so in his de-powered state Banner was shot by Hawkeye. However, a few years later the Hulk was once again revived (and even had some shorter-lived revivals in "Secret Empire" and in Uncanny Avengers). This latest revival made Banner realize he's (and many other gamma-enhanced beings) pretty much immortal, since the Hulk has pretty much come back from near-death time and time again. It also unleashed the "Devil Hulk" persona for Banner, one that was hinted to be strongly malevolent and was characterized as a devilish Snake in Paul Jenkin's run, but in the current run has actually emerged as a sort of "alternate father figure" for Bruce in a weird way; but also fitting the description he's quite more brutal and often more morally cynical than his other selves.
Recently, the Hulk's arch-enemy the Leader returned, neutralizing both Banner and the Devil personas and dragging them to a kind of gamma hell, leaving the Hulk currently as Joe Fixit in a human form, and a considerably skinnier Savage Hulk as his Hulk form.

You don't really need to know anything apart from basic stuff about Hulk to jump into Immortal Hulk, it was designed that way so that it is friendly to new readers but also rewards long time Hulk fans with various Easter Eggs here and there.
You can start reading Immortal Hulk #1 right now and you will be fine unless you have no idea what a Hulk is, who is Bruce Banner, or anything like that which i am guessing is not the case.
That's amazing!!! Thanks for that. I knew a bit about world war hulk, how he was banished from earth and landed on another planet and flourished. I don't not know there were so many different hulks and the split personalities is really interesting and totally makes sense. Also him being shot with an arrow makes sense cause he brings it up in issue two how the arrow damaged the genius part of his brain..
I read book 1 which collects 1-5 and I'm already hooked. I ordered book so through 8 and when I'm done I'm gonna go back and read some older stuff. Hulk is dope!!
