I think Cass wearing Black Bat suit in Dustin Nguyen short is just his artistic preference for Cass, Babs called her Batgirl and not orphan in Tamaki story and she's wearing the Batgirl suit on the cover.

Remember the Tamaki story is in the past when Cassandra can't speak and Barbara was Oracle in the chair. So, the Dustin Nguyen short seems to be on her time as Black Bat.

Honestly, I'm surprised they don't create a story for Cassandra as Batgirl in the present.

I'm still worried they won't call her Batgirl in her new suit.

Yeah, they didn't mention the codename but she was definitely Black Bat there, as it was set after Damian had become Robin, by which time, of course, Stephanie was Batgirl.

My issue is that it's not really on the nose at all.

One parent with Cass is always alive. Part of her character is her struggle to define herself outside of her parents, who she embraces as much as she rebels against.

Black Bat was an old pulp magazine / character, and a few years back Dynamite may have legally laid claim to it.

Believe it or not, the members of the Bat-family are not like the Power Rangers, where they all need color-coded names. We've already had Red Hood and Red Robin.

Besides, how does "Silver Bat" fit someone like Cassandra?
