I'm pretty sure Zub's relaunch was cancelled. He went off on social media about how sales and piracy were a factor, which I don't think he would've done if the book was always planned to end there. He obviously wanted to do more than 10 issues but couldn't, hence why I use the term ''cancelled'' here. They just got lucky that Marvel decided to give them a second chance so soon, but even then, the fact that they planned Eve's relaunch to be originally a mini shows their confidence on the title wasn't as high as before. We'll see how Lore's run will fare in comparison, but even you posted on another thread how the Young Squadron one-shot significantly outsold the Champions ongoing issue for last month, so... things might not be great. Unfortunately, I just don't think Champions is as commercially successful as it was during Waid's run.

It's gonna be weird not having her in a comic every month for the foreseeable future, though.
My hope is that the writer's story only lasted this far and the true ongoing is in 2022 because there is a lot of minis prepped and ending by the New Years and the rumored relaunch kinda fits there.

Don't forget Champions has changed creative team again since then. Maybe people just aren't liking Lore's take?

While Zub was removed from the book, they did immediately make plans to relaunch it (which COVID messed up), so like I said, it was only a hiatus. A book that's truly cancelled wouldn't be relaunching in less than six months.

I think we're way overdue for a proper examination of Kamala's powers. Beyond that, this being a mini is just fine given how badly Kamala burned out. She doesn't need any ongoings anytime soon.

Can you expound on the Kamala burnout and why she doesn't need an ongoing?

Here's the article about the new mini on marvel.com. Explosion at her cousin's lab, in Chicago of all places? If they're going to set it there, why introduce a new character? Just use Ironheart!

She had so many books going at once and all it did was make everybody hate her. What she needs is to go quiet for a year or so, maybe a one-shot or a mini like this here or there to keep up appearances, and then she can come back fresh. Basically, just give her a rest from the ongoings until people are ready for her again.

You mean the trolls who never read her book? Yet set it on fire, are it, crapped on and were offended that a book was showing Muslims as human?

At MOST she has been in two books.

What you are asking is pandering to that echo chamber.

Basically, just give her a rest from the ongoings until people are ready for her again.
It does not work like that.

    Not when you need material.

The folks who have issues with her-are not reading the book and would LOVE to see her out the way so whatever MUTANT can sneak in.

We have had too many times POC get books and then they are taken away and folks get BURIED. See DC's teen population. Tim, Conner & Bart held books for almost 9 years. Once they lost those books-the trashing of them got started.

The issue is the people who aren't ready for her were likely never ready to start with.

Her book was meant for younger audiences, not those collecting XMen, don't forget, X fans are still bitter about the Inhumans push and she was in the center of it.

Meanwhile, new MM set photos and they confirm the purple energy stuff, remember, they are in conjunction with her embiggening.

Some people only accept Ms. Marvel because she was friends with Cyclops and they also use it as an excuse to how she could be allowed in their territory.

The annoying thing about people who say that she would've been a mutant if she came out before or after is that:
    A. If you're a mutant you're tied down to an X-Men book
    B. The X-Men push has been going on for like over 2 years and they haven't released any new characters with solo books, but have tons of team books because they work as a team. Why would they have released Ms. Marvel if they didn't need to expand their comic family?

And they would've downplayed her heritage because mutants are allegories for religious minorities and POC, and it wouldn't have made any sense to have non-mutants represent this.

The new mutant characters they invented during the Inhumanity era (yes, they were creating new mutant characters and stories despite people saying otherwise) are in their books now, but have taken a back seat.

Ms. Marvel wouldn't have been able to be independent and shine the way she has if she were tied down to a franchise with "legacy" characters. The refreshing thing about her Moongirl and Mosaic was that they were tied to a greater Marvel Universe mythos, but weren't trapped.

I dropped Ahmad's run out of boredom than hatred. Changing her origin feels like your tackling the wrong issue.

To me, Kamala reminds me of Corey from Boy meets World. They are bland characters surrounded by more interesting people. So I rather tackle that first than make her origins more confusing. They are simple and effective, they should stay that way.

When Sana Amanat created the character, they decided on her civilian identity first (a Muslim teenage girl), and her codename, powers and origin later. That's why her powers look different in her debut in Captain Marvel. They hadn't yet settled on how her powers work, it was her own book's first artist that came up with that. The terrigen mist origin was just timing convenience as that had just happened in the Inhumanity event when the book was launching. If she'd debuted a couple of years earlier, there's no reason to think she wouldn't have been a mutant. She wouldn't have been the only non-X affiliated mutant (Justice, who debuted in Defenders and then joined The Thing's supporting cast in Ben's solo book, comes to mind, he's only been a New Warrior and an Avenger, never an X-Man). The codename Ms. Marvel (and thus, her connection to Carol) was picked because it happened to be vacant - apparently Ms. Fantastic had been considered due to her powers being similar to Reed's.

Three actually, she was in Ms. Marvel, Marvel Team-Up, and Champions simultaneously.

The majority of X-fans don’t hate Kamala. If anything, we know her as the only shining gem in the Inhumans push.

It’s a “he-man haters club” who hates Kamala and her fellow “SJW” heroes. The same ones hating that Carol left the sexy black leather for her current Captain Marvel look.
