"I am a man of peace."
"A man of peace...who fights like ten tigers."
Yeah it did feel rushed. I still liked it but it wasn't as good as I was hoping it'd be. Still, eager to see how it's brought to an end next month.
It's not quite Captain America if it's not cheesy, I think, but cheesy in a way that speaks to and of Steve Rogers's sheer sincerity and genuinely good heart. That's easy to call cheesy after we've become so damned cynical as a society and a culture, albeit understandably so, but like with Superman over at DC, I'd think the best versions of Cap peak when they have sincere, unapologetic belief in the fundamental goodness of others, no matter how dark things may be in the world around them.
The spider is always on the hunt.
That is the great thing about Steve...bluntly..he believes in "The Dream". He believes in the fundamental rights of all men...whether he agrees with how they exercise them or not. There was a bit back in the day (IIRC around the Streets of Poison time) that there was an 'artist' whose material was pornographic and the Watchdogs targeted the guy. Steve went to warn him and the guy thought it meant Steve supported what he did....with Steve basically telling the guy in so many words he thought he was a scumbag...but as long as he wasn't hurting anyone it was his right to be a scumbag.
In other news, I'm guessing we might see the launch of a new number 1 in November or December. The Sam/Steve roadtrip across America mini ends in October.
Linking to the Polygon interview with Coates. It's primarily about his run on Black Panther, but there's a very nice bit where he talks about the Brubaker situation and basically sings a love song to Death of Captain America arc and that entire run.
As a whole, it's interesting to read his thought process on writing for the comics and story decision, and part of me hopes -- and doubts -- we'll get anything similar when he closes out this run on Cap. I'd love to hear his thoughts on story decisions.
