Just looking at it from a character perspective, I think one of the biggest issues with Earth-65 Gwen is how apathetic and out of it she can be in terms of her relationships.

A lot of that is she's written as a completely different character when she's in other books that are not her own. She's written as the cool superhero with her amazing costume, and then in her own book she's a (mostly) totally apathetic person that you wonder why anyone that isn't her dad would even try to talk to her.

I think the problem comes from the fact that they never expected her to take off so she wasn't really built for the long game. She was just supposed to show up in Spider-Verse as some random alternate Spidey as a fun little nod. As an example, I definitely don't think they'd have had her reveal her ID to her dad in that one-shot if they were really prepping the character for the long term.

Making E-65 Mary Jane so passionate (MJ in general is definitely a very passionate person, no matter what universe) is good from a conflict point of view when contrasted with an apathetic person.

But this mini really is trying to flip the perception of their relationship. I'm curious how comic fans will feel about it once we're on the other side of this story.

Always liked the version. Think the changes made sense for the adaptation and she was afforded a lot more depth and character development then love interest characters have been afforded in the superhero movie genre before and since.

I found this picture in DeviantArt too, and it seems the artist suspected the same as me. By inverting the back and red zones of MJ's costume as Spider-Woman, adding white spider-eyes, and adding a couple of stingers from Black Widow, we can see it clearly now. I said MJ's style as Spider-Woman in "Ultimate Spider-Man" was actually based on her own alternative future daughter, MC2's May "Mayday" Parker. Don't you see how the final version seems like a mix between Mayday's classic costume and her version of the black suit?

By the way, if you ask me, I believe the final version would have suited much better in the series. And the artist who made this picture made a second version of this picture. Look:

Assuming Earth-65 Mary Jane gets control of the symbiote currently possessing her a la animated Ultimate Mary Jane, Fooray's "Scarlet-MJ" design would be a great look to adapt for her.

It feels like it's set up to be a sequel to Issue #29 and Issue #25 in terms of centering on their relationship, and MJ's love for drama.

Some people worry that this issue might lead to a kind of break-up or separation, which I hope not, but it's enough of a possibility (and the teaser hints at it) that I'd be happy if the issue avoided that.

IF it has anything other than that, I don't know.

Feels like that's Williams story. Of course we may not ever get that because of some real world issues so it'll just be there in the background for another writer in the future if they ever want to do anything with it.
