M/ Penance: Monet St. Croix Appreciation 2021

It's crazy even with everything that was said in the previous thread I still don't know if M is African(Black) or Maghreb / Berber or a mix

I'm just going by the original: she's mixed, white/black, French/Algerian.

They really need to set up an official color palette at some point and pass it around. It gets more embarrassing every time this happens.

Apparently I'm in the minority of people who are excited for this. Excalibur got much better since X of Swords, Tini was having trouble establishing a prelude to XoS and finally found her pace. JDW said Tini and Hickman were the only two writers who were fans of Monet and invested in pushing her, so for one I sure am glad that she's being written as a team leader by one of those two people.

I'm relived that Tini mentioned how she loved new x-men and the original x-corps because I was a worried about the book being more about corporate stuff than like x-corps first run because i really loved the team dynamic and missions. I also believe Monet should be out on field.

Except when they have her looking like wonderbread, I kinda feel bad when colourist get flack for colouring Monet bc she never got an established skin tone beside being visibly brown. Often the issue lies with artist giving her a white european face instead of north african features.

I'm drawing my own take on Monet's X-Corp look, and I can't decide on a color scheme. I'm toying with a royal purple, but I'm wondering if I don't stick to Red/white/black or burgundy then she won't be recognizable.

Like it more than most of her normal costumes, the head piece is a really nice touch.

Am I the only one that was bummed about M and Penance really being "one"?

I enjoyed both characters - and thought Penance was a great twist to the "feral" type character we see - because her hair / skin was razor sharp - giving her the "Rogue" syndrome of "Don't touch me."

Of course, making her mute, kind of makes it difficult to develop her too much because they rarely (that I recall) even used thought bubbles with her.
