Why can’t the stormtroopers in Star Wars shoot straight?

I mean yeah, that's what I'm saying. EU writers like Filoni have this habit of downplaying the villains in an effort to make the heroes look good which in turn results in a single casualty in all of Rebels, or the Bo Katan episode of The Mandalorian. It basically results in the villains not having any teeth.

I think there was more than a single casualty in Rebels, unless we're talking of the main cast, but I enjoyed the villains a lot in Clone Wars and Rebels so I never particularly felt the main ones didn't have teeth even if the grunts weren't that effective.

The first couple of minutes of Star Wars has Stormtroopers mowing down rebels, and stunning Leia.

They just never kill the main characters, like in most franchises.

Funny thing is ROTJ, the Stormtroopers manage to hit both R2 and Leia, although in both cases they're trying to get the bunker door open and get distracted. 3PO is also badly damaged in ESB.


Luke and Chewie also get hit by Jabba's gang, and Luke never seems to bother to fix his damaged mechanical hand. He just wears a glove over it, one that he still has in The Mandalorian, and by the time of Ben's fall doesn't even bother with the glove or the fake flesh. (Although the Luke illusion from TLJ does have a brown glove)

My opinion is a long tradition of bad guys unable to shoot straight and good guys miraculously able to make it through until the words “The end” appear on the screen.

I think that sums up the real world reasons.
