I kinda agree and disagree. I'd be okay with two books, however, if it were to cover a single large team. While Stern's is probably my favorite Avengers run, and he did amaze me with his ability to juggle the six members limit, I think the Avengers work better as a larger team, with somewhere between 8 to 12-13 members. That team could occasionally be split into samller, non-set, squads, that'd be covered in the two books you mentioned, and once or twice a year, you'd get a huge mission involving the whole team, and covered in both books. That's my dream, but it'd only work with a really good writer and editor team. Marvel hasn't had one of those in quite a while.

With 7th, 8th and 9th being rotating spots for various characters to come and go
Shooter & Busiek handled the large team format perfectly. Threats should be exploding all over Earth, and space. It makes sense for a large team to handle multiple threats, sometimes simultaneously. With different heroes bouncing off each other, it should never be a dull moment in regards to interpersonal relationships, and character development.
A science table featuring a hirsute mutant, a size changing but troubled man, an arrogant former munitions dealer, and an African king.....only the Avengers can pull that off.
During the Geoff Johns run, I saw the potential for a three kings saga: Wakanda, Atlantis, and Asgard. Not fighting each other, but a legitimate built up menace. I think the world would freak out at the thought of the Avengers having an alliance with three powerful realms.
The idea that the team has a sub-family: Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Simon Williams, Vision, Wanda, Quicksilver, & Crystal is interesting.
T'challa is getting disrespected here.
Today’s issue is pretty. That’s all I can say about that.

I literally cannot take this phoenix event seriously I have no idea what's happening just a bunch of colors with a story that's all over the place.
