    Only Eddings I ever read was the Lion of Macedon / Dark Prince duology of pseudo-history.

    Not a bucketload of magic in that.

    That's not Eddings, that's Gemmel. Eddings did the Belgariad and other series. Gemmel did the Drenai books and diverse others.
