I don't think it will be a period film. Atom Smasher and Cyclone's pressence confirm this. In the Black Adam's teaser trailer of the JSA he described them as the new recruits. And if it was a period film, they would have gone for a younger actor for Doctor Fate, not someone of Pierce Brosnan's age.

He's probably there as a one off so he can die and pass the mantle down to a younger successor like Khalid or Hector (since Hawkman is in this).

The Ancient Egypt part is to tell his origins and how he ended imprisoned by the Wizard, it will probably take some part of the film, but not all of it The movie seems to be about his escape in the present time and his meeting with the JSA (The JSA didn't exist in Ancient Egypt lmao).

Yeah I know the JSA didn’t exist in ancient Egypt but seeing how DC doesn’t have the greatest track record with their films it wouldn’t have surprised me.
