In 2017, Tatum said it will be a small scale superhero movie.
That would mean production can start in the summer and still make the March 2020 date.

It could, but I don't think it will. I personally think this movie in it's current form is dead and I'm not sure how keen Disney would be to resurrect it. It's far more likely at this point that Gambit would appear in a MCU X-Men reboot.

The Disney-Fox deal is moving ahead at full steam and appears that nothing will be able to stop it. So it's time to think about more rational things like this:

With all the problems FOX has been having with New Mutants and Dark Pheonix I no longer want this movie under the current leadership. Gambit's underutlization in movies may put him the character in a better position after the Disney deal. You would think they would want to utilise characters who have perhaps been overlooked by FOX.

That's what I've been thinking for quite a while, I think the odds of Gambit being a part of the X-men Disney movies form the start are pretty good.

I love Jon Snow as a fictional character as much as Gambit. But Kit's far too short. Have you seen him standing next to Sansa and Brienne?

EDIT: But he DOES have the right look. The beard, eyes, the hair...maybe CGI his height?

I think he's not that good of an actor. I still prefer him then Tatum but.....

My top choice would be Gaspar Ulliel. Good actor, sleek, french, mysterious.

I think this is a good possibility, Fox has really dropped the ball. Since it’s a rom-com now, it would fit into the MCU formula.
I hope it’s doesn’t become a MCU movie, but it may be the only way this movie happens.

Haha I noticed that as well. It's not too much of a stretch to see him as Remy. Seems like he's got the acting chops to pull it off as well

It would never happen as its pure fan-fiction, but I would love it if Gambit debuted as a rival/adversary in an Ant-Man heist movie!

I think Disney and Fox were talking and negotiating a few years before they actually announced the merger in late 2017.
This is why Fox is delaying and dragging their feet on Gambit, DP and NM.
