As a Catholics it'd be very disappointing if they made their most prominent Catholic character other than arguably Daredevil into an atheist

I mean Kurts literally been to heaven, he'd make the least sense to make an atheist
People, even Catholics, change religions for many very personal reasons. The many Gods understand that it's not the destination but the journey that's important.
And Kurt deciding he no longer wants to follow a particular path shouldn't affect you and other Catholics because you each have your own paths to walk and journeys to take.
Lord Ewing *Praise His name! Uplift Him in song!* Your divine works will be remembered and glorified in worship for all eternity. Amen!
Nightcrawler becoming an Atheist would be stupid he legit died & went to heaven at one point.
It would only be an "uproar" (an empty and pointless one at that) among and by those who, if their own personal faith is so easily called into question because of a fictional character's "decision" then they really shouldn't be reading comics in the first place. And they need to seek out their own Gods and scripture as to why their own belief is so weak and easily fractured.

Lol seriously? It would absolutely be a huge controversy if they suddenly made them atheists, the same way people did when Oscar Isaac was cast as Moon Knight. And he actually is Jewish.
If they had a major Muslim character renounce Islam it'd be an immediate controversy, let's not pretend otherwise.

Kurt deciding to follow another path other than Catholicism, does not make him an atheist. It just makes him question the path he's been following all along even given his experiences.
And as a general rule...real people, no matter what faith they follow, don't die, go to Heaven (or the equivalent there-of), lose their souls, and miraculously come back alive to live a normal existence.
So....
Lord Ewing *Praise His name! Uplift Him in song!* Your divine works will be remembered and glorified in worship for all eternity. Amen!
Yes, seriously....
There shouldn't be any twitter non-trovercies...Not if the reason for the renunciation was meaningful and well presented.
Like I said...people in real life change religions for many deeply personal and legitimate reasons....marriage being one such reason. Loss and/or questioning of said Faith is another. It happens. And more often than one would think.

I just think it would suck if the one of two Catholic characters who got me into comics in the first place suddenly wasn't a Catholic anymore because it's politically incorrect otherwise.
Would it really "suck" though? Would your actual real-life Faith and your soul shrivel up and die? Your connection to your God become empty and meaningless?
No sarcasm...I'm genuinely asking.

Agreed specially since most characters seem to be agnostic. I think in this case Spurrier should not touch the religion aspect of Nightcrawler, he has been nominally catholic for a long time and an active catholic for a while so he can stay that way for this run. Spurrier should keep himself into the "new way of living" for the story, it suits him better because he´s not a religious person and it allows other characters to follow this path if the objective is to stablish a way for Krakoa to not self-destruct as a result of their unity, that would be just sad.
