Well, megazone did get used as a robotech movie also later! It's also interesting how much the character design changes in part two, from the Macross-esque look

Seven episodes into Solo Leveling now and I think I'm settling into thinking that it's an ok series.
Solid power fantasy stuff with cool animations. I'm not really into the video game aesthetics of Jinwoo's abilities but it is what it is.
The series is going a bit slower than I thought it would, for better and worse. I think mainly I'd like to see Jinwoo interact with other people more.
Pretty fun series overall.

The final Megazone 23 (Part III) is a weird one, reportedly made because of the popularity of Akira. I think I even saw the Garland doing the slide.
The first part (III is broken up into two parts) animation quality is all over the place, with some great sequences but then some shots which are clearly missing animation between the keyframes (If my animation parlance is right)
The second part is a bit better quality wise, although it seems to imply that poor Shojo got merged with a computer at some point (although presumabely he had at least had a family, as it's implied Eiji is his and Yui's great-great-great-great grandson)
Most of the characters are mainly just retreads of the characters from the first two, although there's a retcon that Eve was actually a real person all this time, although with shorter hair than her AI counterpart.

I'm guessing the idea that Macross is partly a 1980sish city in space + transforming robots probably was enough of a connection, and also some of the same people worked on Megazone (Mikimoto designed Eve, for example).
Interesting reading about ARTMIC, seems there were a lot of creative issues (With it seems a lot of the crew going over to Gainax) and it had some problems in the 90s when the bubble economy kind of burst which had some effects on anime as well. They had really great concepts but seemed to have a lot of issues getting them made.
It kind of effected Bubblegum Crisis as well but I think BCG was generally more consistent on a story and quality level (Although the character designs seem to change a bit in the later episodes) than Megazone.

Kind of interesting to contrast this to Gundam: Witch From Mercury, which while a big success the showrunners seem to be OK with ending the story there apart from manga and novel sidestories (I think at some point there should be perhaps some more in-depth 'bridge' between the prologue episode and the series; there was the novella, but that of course didn't tell the whole story as some surprises were saved for the show).

Wcdonalds ep 1. They have a manga as well coming out! The wrappers have manga on them by a real manga artist also!
There was a late 90's TV reboot of Bubblegum Crisis which was generally well-received although it isn't as well loved as it's 80's counterpart.
City Hunter still has had movies coming out and had various TV movies in the mid 90s, and Angel Heart adaptations a decade ago. The music is probably the most dated aspect, but a lot of it's some pretty good music ("Get Wild" is pretty much the theme for the whole franchise).
Cat's Eye perhaps is a bit more dated though, although the recent Lupin III team up/CG movie did try to update the outfits a bit.
Although Lupin III still has a very 1970s look and is still going pretty strong most of the time (Although there weren't any ongoing TV series for a while, there were annual specials and the occasional movie during the gap).
