Admittedly, my memory sucks eggs, but I seem to recall that when CCS was brought to the States, the American producers didn't want it appearing cute and/or girlish (thus the name change and dopey opening) for Saturday morning, and for Syaoran to be the de facto lead since they feared little boys watching the show wouldn't relate to Sakura as the star.

I remember there being an attempt at Escaflowne on FOX KIDS that got pulled due to low ratings with only a few episodes airing.
I kind of wonder, did Toonami's Midnight run (Where they played less censored versions of shows like "Gundam Wing" where they could say "Kill" instead of destroy etc and show some of the blood) partially lead to the creation of Adult Swim?

Yeah according to the WIKI they cut or combined whole episodes. Saban was involved, and of course they were at least partly responsible for the DBZ censorship.
Think it was similar to Card Captor Sakura in a sense, it was kind of a more female-oriented show originally (if not outright Shoujo) but they edited it to make it more male-friendly.

Yet more censorship in anime brought to the States. When Outlaw Star was shown on Cartoon Network's original Toonami afternoon anime block, the first appearance of Melfina, the android interface of Gene Starwind's spaceship was shown wearing what looked like a sports bra and bike pants (picture on right) instead of being buck naked in the original uncut version (picture on left). However, in this case, I can understand why Melfina was clothed since the show aired on a channel where kids were watching. Still, I thought it was kinda dopey.
(Unfortunately, this watermarked photo was the only one I found that had the side by side comparisons of Melfina)

Watch the full video and the Japanese animation pretty much said it at the end.
Yup it aired on fox for one season of 10 episodes. Ironic the movie came out in theatres right after leading to some confused thinking that it was a kids movie with the cartoon on saturday mornings aimed at kids leading to some surprised parents who took their kids to see it!
Yet outlaw star kids american dub still kept the kid sidekick kill his own girlfriend and her robot pets without even knowing it or her knowing she is fighting her own boyfriend than she dies blowing up and ends with him waiting for her, but she never shows up as he just killed her without knowing it was her! Ironic she was talking about how excited she was to meet the boy she was unknowingly fighting! Pretty dark cartoon network!Yet more censorship in anime brought to the States. New episode of Trigun continues the origin arc but then brings it back to the present day (Turns out Vash's second "parents" are still around but elderly (although with some of their aging slowed due to cryosleep), and that the colony ship/westernish civilization on the planet is around 150 years old). We sort of see Vash's Angel Arm but it's now a small black hole?
Some of the visuals for the next block of episodes seem to strongly hint that Vash will adapt his "classic" spiky hair and classic zig-zag shades look by the end of the season, in a similar fashion to how the reboots of Star Trek (2009) and James Bond ("Casino Royale") ended with their character trademarks established: The yellow Captain's uniform and "Bond, James Bond"

I'm been watching BTAS and it's kind of interesting how much made it below the radar while other companies seemed to be almost a bit too sensitive with some anime censorship, at least with DBZ and other examples.
Pretty sure BTAS also aired on Fox Kids and WB which similarly aired the censored anime so it wasn't a network issue.

Reputation alone might have done it. With some of the, shall we say...seedier anime out there (plus a well known sub-genre) the censors might have been inspired to go looking for stuff to black out or change, whereas with BTAS they may have had mental images of the campy stuff from the 60s. Kind of like how referees have been shown the same sports plays twice, but with the colors of the uniforms changed between viewings - the team wearing black always gets more penalties against them. Or how in the NFL, reputation changes how readily a player has to deal with pass interference calls. A corner with a reputation as a "shutdown corner" will get away with having his hands on the receiver the whole way down the field whereas one from a team with a bad reputation will be flagged for being the victim of offensive pass interference. Or how someone I used to game with openly said ALL anime was porn - all it needed was a blond in a short skirt, nudity, fanservice, or even the slightest situation involving hormones not required. The guy refused to watch Record of Lodoss War of all things over that idiotic belief.
Dark does not mean deep.
There's a preview available for the second part of Witch From Mercury. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQjXXzdEnMw
Shows some of the characters but Guel Jeturk is missing. Also the Aerial rebuild in action against some other Mobile suits. In addition to the two enemy Gundams seen before, there's also the rebuilt Pharact as well.
Cat's Eye, which is going through a sort of semi-revival in interest right now thanks to the City Hunter and Lupin crossovers, will be getting a French TV series.

Next to last episode of Trigun today seemed kind of like Evangelion Third impact/Instrumentality lite.

Gundam Witch From Mercury's Blu-Ray release includes some animation fixes (Like getting rid of a beam saber damage on a suit because it wasn't hit by a beam saber in the first place!) and lighting changes.
