New key visual from Witch from Mercury season 2. Like the first season visual, the cast is floating around with the Gundam, except in this case there's a lot more cast and Miorone seems to be falling.

So I've been watching both Komi Can't Communicate and Don't toy with me, Miss Nagatoro. Basically the same genre but an interesting contrast. Komi of course seems much better in animation quality, although the text boxes that show up fairly constantly is a little distracting.

Also of course a lot less mean-spirited

Trigun Stampede has been confirmed for a second season (There is a preview clip but all it's just a recap of the current season).

The season finale also came out, as expected it pretty much ends things Casino Royale/Star Trek Kelvin timeline/Batman Begins with the 'classic' elements pretty much in place, so it's a semi-prequel like those.

Gundam Witch From Mercury premiere today. Starts with an incredible action sequence with the new Aerial making short work of several challengers before settling into somewhat more light-hearted WFM stuff but with definite plot progression-the evil Earthian Gundam pilots are now exchange students at the school, and Nika is a sort of double agent. Miorone is away looking after her injured father but Sulleta's mother comes to her with some kind of offer for a "Quiet Zero" project-which then shows some kind of station/tunnel thing, which makes me think it's probably this series equivalent of Solar Ray/system, Colony laser, Barge, Genesis, Memento Mori etc. Basically Gundam's Death Stars.

Cool new Ops and eds too. The op seems to show a rotating cellphone and the ED is a well-animated "Gundance".

Started a new show on Crunchyroll last night that intrigued me a lot:

Why Raeliana Ended Up At The Duke's Mansion
Rinko, a budding college student is murdered before she can begin classes, but, she's reincarnated in the world of a favorite romance novel she read as Raeliana McMillan, a young lady of wealth and privilege with a loving family. However, there's a huge hitch, in the story, Raeliana is a side character who's death at the hands of her fiancee is the catalyst for the story. Unwilling to die a second time, Raeliana, using her knowledge of the story, cooks up a scheme where she cozies up to a rich, handsome but sketchy duke in the hope of changing the outcome so she'll have a happy ending, i.e., continue living.

I read a boatload of hype about Oshi No Ko (airing on HiDive), so I decided to check it out. and, I gotta say the hype is absolutely justified. I don't know what other shows are in the pipeline, but this already has my vote for Anime of the Year:

Synopsis: Sixteen year old Ai Hoshino is popular and beloved idol, but one with a secret....she's pregnant with twins, so she flees from Tokyo to the countryside to keep everyone in the dark. Her physician and gynecologist Gorou Amemiya is a huge fan of Ai, so he's shocked to learn she's expecting, still, he promises to do all he can to help her. But, on the night Ai is due to give birth, Gorou is attacked and murdered by an obsessed fan of Ai turned stalker, however, his story doesn't end there as he's reborn as one of Ai's kids, Aquamarine, or Aqua for short. Possessed of all his memories as an adult, Aqua and his sister Ruby (who has a secret of her own) view the world Ai lives in an idol, but learn it isn't all cuteness and sweetness, and even has unimaginable tragedy. While the debut episode clocked in at a whopping 90 minutes, nearly the equivalent of four regular length anime episodes, surprisingly, it just flew by, the story was THAT good! I've never been one for hyperbole, but, friends, you gotta watch this show, it's amazing!

After the more quiet season premiere, today's Witch from Mercury was just as crazy as the season finale last year with major plot revelations which confirmed a major fan theory.

The show is also introducing so many one-off mobile suits variants, kind of wonder how many will actually make it to model kit form (G Gundam, for example, had tons of Gundams but stuck to it's 'core' group for the model kit line)

Prospera isn't just a "Char Clone" it seems-she's a Gendo Ikari one!

The two most well written anime shows this current season in my view are the continuing Vinland Saga season two which continues to be a masterclass in character writing. Also impressing with it writing especially again the character writing was the feature length debut episode of Oshi No Ko, which if I was to say anything else about the episode would spoil it. You really need to go into the episode knowing nothing about it to get the best from the story.

Also worth a mention is the continuing Witch From Mercury that’s now in high gear in its episodes, Birdie Wing Golf Girls Story which continues to be both fun and OTT. Demon Slayer is off to a slow but consistent start. Also Hells Paradise of which I’ve only seen the first episode looks to have potential as does Yuri Is My Job. Still have more shows from this season to check out.

After all the drama of Oshi No Ko, I needed some goofy stuff as a palate cleanser, and these two shows got plenty of chuckles out of me:

    Otaku Elf
High schooler Koito Koganei is a miko in training at a shrine who's resident priestess is Elda, a 600 year old elf and videogame obsessed recluse

    ********************

    Too Cute Crisis
Liza Luna, a member of an alien civilization explores Tokyo and decides Earth should be destroyed, but changes her mind after falling madly in love with, of all things...cat cafes!

There's some speculation that Miorone's deceased mother might've had a role in creating Suletta, if she's a clone of Eri and not just a lookalike sister born later.

It's mentioned she genetically engineered the tomatoes, and since Prospera is mentioned to have worked with Mio's mother in the past it's possible she had a hand in cloning Eri to make Suletta.

Symbolism in the opening kind of strongly suggests those links as well.

Went to see Suzume. It was very good, but I don't think it matched Shinkai's last two films. He's a master, so it is well worth watching, but not the masterpiece of Your Name.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

There's rumors about Timothee Chalamat in Netflix's Gundam movie.

When you think of it, his hairstyle and general acting style does seem a bit like most post 2000 Gundam protagonists....
