Watching Bocci the Rock and the very first Lupin III season.

Interesting that Bocci kind of tackles a similar issue (Social anxiety) but in a completely different way and tone (As others have noted, Komi has no interior monologue whereas Bocci does). The OTT reactions and shifting to different animation styles and even some "real" elements kind of reminds me of Nichojo's bag of tricks.

Lupin III Part One, I'm in the second half of the season and it's where Miyazaki assumed direction of the series the first time around, so there's the much nicer Lupin, damsels in distress that aren't Fujiko, and one episode that's sort of a prototype of Castle of Cagliostro with Lupin throwing away fake bills at the beginning, a group of counterfeiters, a clock tower/giant gears etc, Lupin falling into a floor trap etc.

Cowboy Bebop the movie is getting a limited release in US theaters next week, part of a promotion of classic late 90s/early 00's anime films by Anime Expo since last fall.

The film is not streaming, and as far as the US in concerned the DVD is long out of print and the Blu-ray exists but is also hard to find I guess?

The live-action netflix show did adapt the opening scene of the movie for it's intro, although it shifted the action to an outer space casino instead of a convenience store. Also the second season would probably have adapted the movie storyline judging by the Ed scene, but given how they botched Spike's story that's probably a mercy.

The movie takes place I think just before the episode where Ed leaves in the show.

I've decided to give up on the Dragon Prince aka Mysteries of Aaravos. It has just gotten so bad. It wasn't that good to begin with, but it has steadily gotten worse and now this meandering plot of leading no where. I watched this last episode with my daughter and we enjoyed making fun of the episode and how stupid the characters were being. That is my most cherished memory from this show.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Same here, and indeed milk that cash cow dry before the ending. Considering how short the Demon Slayer manga is compared with typical popular shonen monsters like MHA, Black Clover, Dragon Ball, or the seemingly unending One Piece, I wouldn't be surprised if they cynically pad the anime with a few anime-exclusive arcs a la OG Sailor Moon back in the day (although that was done because the main manga was ongoing).

My wife and I did that watching Bodacious Space Pirates, but we got a much better show than we thought we were getting up on starting.

We thought it was going to be a fan service fueled train wreck, but it was a pretty good show. Still easy to make comments on the yuri undertones, okay, okay, overtones. The author claims that isn't the case, but nobody thought to tell the crew making the anime that Marika and Chaiki aren't either a couple or the endgame romance of the series.

GUNDAM SEED FREEDOM is out in Japan, seems to be getting a good response from fans who have seen it there although it's kind of too soon to really judge that.

Also looks like there could mean a new Gundam collaboration between Tomino and Akira Yusuda, although it could mean something else. The two worked on TURN A GUNDAM and RECOGNISTA IN G. TURN A of course was streamed for a few weeks in November/December on Gundaminfo after winning a fan poll, along with RECOGNISTA's movies.

Seems like going back to Tomino might be a slightly odd choice after WITCH FROM MERCURY was a big hit, though. Could be just a standalone 45th anniversary project or not Gundam at all.

Double anime at the american box office this weekend with both demon slayer 3 and final fantasy 7 advert children on the big-screen!

Also, congrats to boy and the heron winning another award. This makes the third time it beat spider-verse at an award over second time for spidey!

    Deadline says--

hat Miyazaki won bodes well for the Japanese auteur’s Oscar chances, ending an 18-year streak of US-funded productions winning Best Animated Film at the BAFTAs that began in 2006 with Happy Feet, and making it the first Japanese production ever to win the title. Surprisingly, it’s also also the first win for 83-year-old Miyazaki, who has a loyal following in the UK.

Spider-verse may not win the animated award!

Watched the first two Megazone 23 (First time I've seen the second one). It's a very 80's anime but also a bit vague (an issue that some high-profile anime seem to have at that time-noticed it with Zeta Gundam.). The Delzag and the ruined city next to the supercomputer (an earlier version of the Megazone's 'Tokyo"?) It's also interesting how it kind of is a precursor to the Matrix (especially the bit about it's actually a dystopian future beyond the city), although not with VR but with a form of hypnosis, propaganda and other tricks which also kind of remind me of The Truman Show.

Interesting that it's a TV show that wound up compressed into an OAV (Might help explain why some of the animation is a bit inconsistent). Gundam F91 is somewhat similar, but I think the main difference is that Megazone 23 was heavily into production when shortened, whereas F91 is clearly made entirely with a movie budget.

It's also interesting how much the character design changes in part two, from the Macross-esque look (Mikimoto designed some of the characters) to the guy who created KITE. Also the gore level goes up significantly, with a ship being taken over being the standout (and some bits extremely fluid by 80's anime standards, even for OAVs). Although I'm surprised most of the biker gang survived (and seem to be a sort of Noah's ark for mankind, although BD's squadron and possibly other civilians survived-I haven't seen parts 3 and 4 yet).
Although whatever happened to Yui's roommate Mai isn't resolved; she's simply summoned home by her father (part of the military coverup) at the end of the first and Yui gets some new friends in the second.
