Default Golden Age Hour-Man / Hourman (Rex "Tick-Tock" Tyler) Appreciation 2021

First appearance of his feature: Adventure Comics #48, cover-dated March 1940.

And that initial story was also reprinted in Justice League of America #96 (February 1972):

Rex was also a founding member of the Justice Society of America,

But, unfortunately, after All-Star Comics #7, Rex became the first member of the JSA to be removed from the line-up without graduating to his own solo-title (fellow Adventure Comics feature Starman took over for Rex in the JSA), and years later it was retroactively revealed that Rex had developed an addiction to "Miraclo", the pill he had invented that granted him one hour of superhuman abilities.

I thought Hourman only gained super strength from the Miraclo? What happened to his speed and night vision? Did they remove those in the JSA stories because they duplicate Flash and Doctor Mid-Nite?

Well, from Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe Vol. X (December 1985),

it still mentions "superhuman speed" as an ability.
No idea about any night vision . . .

The origin story you posted mentions "extra-normal sight", which allowed him to see in the dark. If it's not mentioned in that Who's Who profile, they probably retconned it away, I assume once Charles McNider debuted.

Rex is awesome. The story told with him and Rick in JSA was phenomenal.

I saw that. Between that and the JSA in Black Adam, how hilarious would it be if the Justice Society became the preeminent DC cinematic superteam, post JLA fiasco?

If it's true, I wonder which Hourman will they use for the film.

I hope it happens because the JSA has always been my favorite team and much more appealing to me than the league.

No, but Rex did appear in a flashback in DC’s Stargirl which also featured Rick Tyler as a main character.
