Honestly I just wanted a fun celebrity romance but Janet being a businesswoman helps.
Trying to kill your partner is toxic
Stringing someone along and dumping them at the alter is toxic
Being mentally damaged and needing the other to sustain a sense of "normalcy" is toxic
Exhibiting jealousy, acting on it and having controlling attributes towards one's ex is toxic
I prefer the Jessica Rabbit defense of she wasn't bad she was just drawn that way, same thing with characters being handled by hack writers or writers that don't care about them. Just like no character gets a happily ever after in Soaps neither do they in comics, unless you are OG Superman at the end of COIE, and that was only done because TPTB at DC had nothing else for him to do. Breaking couples up is what you do to keep them 'dramatic' sometimes by outside forces ala Malice sometimes by one of the two characters being a jerk. When characters have been around for decades there are a lot of instances of the characters being a jerk. Like Sue and her issues with Namor.
By real world definitions what relationship isn't toxic in comics over an extended time, Orono and Forge, Remy and Rogue, Wolverine and Mariko, Kitty and Peter? They are all pretty toxic because they are made that way to create drama. Alex and Lorna are no more toxic than most.
Only toxic with bad writing...good writing could have them great together...
The problem is that one writer will get them together...and down the line another will break them up...and then another will get them together....and another will get them apart....
And I just get sick and tired of it. The MU needs more Reed and Sues. Couples that get together and stay together through all the ups and downs.

Well, is this really how their relationship worked ?
Not really as she uses her magic powers, and Chris, that could happen to any Marvel couple as well...
