The teenage Hyperion’s cosmic quests with his Shi’ar friends near their end, but none of the young heroes are ready to say farewell. A quick mission in the Negative Zone sounds like the perfect coda to a storied fellowship...but what awaits Hyperion, Gladiator and the rest is horror and agony beyond their wildest nightmares!
Also included in this issue: a special preview of the new spinoff series, THE STARJAMMERS!
Wait....now Hyperion is leading the IG over Gladiator?

It's a riff on Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes and most of the Imperial Guard were Legionnaire pardoies.

So, basically it is Marvel confirming than Gladiator is a riff of Mon-El and not Superman.
    Well played.

What do we know about Ryan Cady, aside from Marvel apparently plucking him from DC?

(I want this to be good, but am not expecting it to ve.)
Current pull-file: Batman the Detective, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Marvel Dark Ages, Nightwing, Superman Son of Kal-El, Transformers, Transformers: King Grimlock, Warhammer 40,000 Sisters of Battle

This entire event is Marvel trying to ape DC?

Honestly, I wonder if it's because they realized Jason Aaron events doesn't sell like they used to and they're maximizing profits instead of making a bunch of comics people won't buy.

Seems obvious from the beggining. Usual bussiness.

I will say that the basic concept of this event as a huge love letter/homage to the DC universe is sweet. It would be interesting if DC did the reverse at some point.

The Imperial Guard vs. the alternate Negative Zone version of the Brood? Ok.

I think for the purposes of this series, yes. But Gladiator's name is Kallark (i.e., "Clark"), so it's possible the Gladiator that we are seeing in Heroes Reborn will be a composite character of Mon-El and one of the Superboys.

And for the record, I would have liked to have seen Marvel use one of their other Superman analogues -- like Miracle Man or even Blue Marvel here. But it looks like this is strictly for Hype's hype.

They already did. A couple of years ago DC did an event called "Metal" and they did spin-offs using old and new characters that were not direct parodies of Marvel titles, but were analogues and homages to various Marvel archetypes...Sideways (Spiderman), The Terrifics ( FF), Damage (The Hulk), Silencer ( Punisher)...there was another one that was the 70's version of The Defenders, but I can't remember the title.
