Default When was the last time you felt "harmony" in the DC comics Universe?

Was there ever a time you felt the DC comics Universe was in harmony? What I mean by this is several things.

A time of consistency, several months or years even of no major changes/reboots/retcons or even company wide "things will never be the same" events.

Both major characters and smaller, yet great, characters were all accounted for. None of this "hey where has xxxxx been?", its been xx years since we've even seen them.

Good editorial staff, minimizing contradictory plot lines across titles.

Basically a time you felt there was a cohesive and consistent shared comics universe

The quality and cohesion of the DC Universe had been in a donward spiral since maybe the resurrection of Oliver Queen, which signaled DC favoring Silver Age nostalgia and cheap sales stunts over storytelling and progress. The 90s were pretty good for DC whenever the titles weren't interrupted by events.

But would you say the major crisis events of the 00's through a wrench in the "harmony"? Or was it done well enough?

Pre 85. After Crisis they just never seemed to leave well enough alone.
Keep in mind that you have about as much chance of changing my mind as I do of changing yours.

I don't think DC was ever fully cohesive and there were always contradictions considering the nature of their shared universe. Rather hastily thrown together from the creations of different creators, whereas Marvel was more cohesive because most of the major stuff was all by Kirby, Lee, Ditko, etc.

But while there were always tweaks and contradictions along the way, the pre-Crisis Bronze Age overall seems way more coherent than what came after. Or at least the changes weren't as big and sweeping all at once like COIE was. though note, that is not to say the quality of a lot of stuff post-COIE was poor. Quite the opposite. The overall package was just even less cohesive and a house of cards even compared to what came before.

That's my feeling as well. Except for Hawkworld, DC seemed to be steady on from 86 until Zero Hour. Then it was All Patch Plumbing All The Time, and seems like it has been ever since.

Post Crisis, so ... 1986? By the time Armageddon 2001 and Zero Hour came around it started getting all wonky again.

I think thats a good point. Post Crisis/86 to Zero Hour is very steady for the exception of the confusion with Hawkman. Hell, they even killed Superman and brought him back all in less than 6 months and it was pretty much contained to only his books. Same with Batman and Knightfall.

    This.

It really solidified with whole THE ORIGINAL UNIVERSE campaign and stayed strong until certain people by the big head and ousted critical talent
