Default A very athletic Royal Rumble

This is a very simple concept: It's a royal rumble that uses professional sports athletes instead of the normal pro wrestlers.

If you're unfamiliar with the Royal Rumble, the rules are simple: Two men start in the ring. An additional man enters every 90 seconds. The only way to eliminate your foes is to throw them over the top rope, and have both their feet touch the ground.

All the athletes hear are at their physical prime, and are non-bloodlusted

Here is the order of entry

    1.Muhammed Ali
    2. Mike Tyson
    3. Tom Brady
    4. Roger Federer
    5. Conor McGregor
    6. Floyd Mayweather
    7. Randy Couture
    8. Peyton Manning
    9. John Elway
    10. Michael Jordan
    11. Joe Montana
    12. Joe Louis
    13. Charles Barkely
    14. David Beckham
    15. Shaq
    16. Wayne Gretzky
    17. Yao Ming
    18. Derek Jeter
    19. Kobe Bryant
    20. Willie Mays
    21. Wilt Chamberlain
    22. Tiger Woods
    23. Michael Phelps
    24. Babe Ruth
    25. LeBron James
    26. Zinedine Zidane
    27. Rafael Nadal
    28. Ken Griffey Jr.
    29. Gordie Howe
    30. Usain Bolt

Ali, Lewis and Tyson are the most dangerous, but the first two are in so early that they probably tire and get eliminated. LEwis is an interesting case - he's not in too early, but he'll still be tired by the time Shaq and Wilt come to play, and gassed as hell by the time my winner joins the fray.

I'd say LeBron wins. He's freakishly fast, in as good a physical condition of anyone, is 2m6 and weighs a solid 115kg or more, and comes in very late in the show. nobody coming in after him has the slightest chance of taking him down.

Shaq is dangerous because he's so big and so strong, but he'll be tired as hell before the end.

I think there are two major threats here in this kind of scenario - Shaq due to his size and McGregor due to the fact that he has far more experience with grappling and throws than the other competitors. Keep in mind the goal isn't to get KOs, but to toss the opponent over the top rope. Yao Ming is probably another "size" related factor here, but lacks the weight of Shaq.

Now I’m not the biggest MMA guy, but I’d have thought Randy Couture has to at least be some sort of threat, right...?

He’s in later than Ali, Tyson, Mayweather and McGregor and, he’s got to be a danger to everyone coming after him.

I absolutely missed Couture in the list. You're right. He'd be another top threat here.

I'll allow myself a moment of chauvinism, and I would like to tell you not to underestimate Zidane, who does come in very late in that Rumble .

Seriously though, I'll place my bet on LeBron as well, a big guy like him who comes in late has quite a few advantages in this, especially since the ones who do have grappling knowledge here will be too tired and are too small to do anything.

I don't know where he'd rank or how far he'd go, but I feel like Dennis Rodman is livid that he wasn't invited to rumble.

Especially since Sir Charles is there.

McGregor is in way too early and is way too small and weak. Floyd is the most technically skilled of anyone here, but I didn't seriously consider him for a heartbeat because he's just too small.

Yao is too thin and not athletic enough. Just of the NBA centers in the show, he'd have no chance at all against Shaq or Wilt.

I totally missed him. He's a much bigger threat then most of the other fighters. I THINK he'd still be in too early, plus he'd really a takedown and ground n'pound specialist, and that's less useful here, as focusing your entire body on one person sets you up to get picked up and thrown out by someone else.

I also found it really hard to resist making a Zizou reference. Honestly, it's still too soon for me.

Rodman might change up my analysis if he came in late enough. Mostly because he's bats%$t crazy and very strong. If he came in before LBJ, I'd still go LeBron - who is roughly the same height, but heavier and MASSIVELY stronger and more athletic.

I love LeBron, and he is a monster. Usain Bolt is 6'5, and a tough 205lb. Gordie Howe (6'0, 205 hockey player with 2000 penalty minutes) was in many more fights than LeBron. I'm pretty confident that Howe could take LeBron out if those two were the only ones left. But in the non-bloodlusted rumble, LeBron has too many friends to guard his back.

I'm actually picking Bolt to win. He has the speed and was physically a freak. Getting out Wilt will take a lot out of LeBron. Bolt will capitalize.

Bolt still weighs at least 60 pounds less than LeBron, and sprint speed isn't helping Bolt here. Bolt actually doesn't have a particularly fast takeoff, either - he was often last-ish at 50m then just obliterated everyone from there on.

And Howe would have literally no chance against LeBron. Pound-for-pound? Sure, Howe is a better fighter. But LeBron is basically a whole different species as far as size, speed and strength. Like always, there's a reason that fighting sports have weight classes - hint, it's not to protect the bigger fighters from the smaller ones.

That's true, If skills are somewhat equal. The simple fact is that LeBron is unexperienced. Show me LeBron in any fight, NCAA, high school or NBA. I remember the years and he hasn't ever gotten into a serious tussle. He's too important to fight. So, he's used to walking away from violence. He will drop 40 on you the next time you meet, though. That's his revenge.

Now, Gordie Howe on the other hand, https://puckstruck.com/2018/02/01/ho...chopping-wood/ knew how to finish a fight. Look at the other guy's nose and ask yourself if LeBron ever got into a fight like that.

Most Hockey players are a different breed (Sorry Gretzky). Bolt is more of a gut call, which I am not defending strongly. But on feats, Howe has enough to take out LeBron. LeBron size and strength isn't enough to beat Howe's experience.

The Monkey tail will help him hang on, and the Thievery attack will definitely get some eliminations.

LeBron famously grew up poor in a hard town so I'd be pretty shocked if he didn't have some scuffles in there.

Gordie Howe fought on ice, not in real life. He's definitely a tough guy, but he's 6 feet, 200. He's basically a garden gnome next to the massively stronger, massively more athletic, massively quicker, massively larger LBJ.

Same thing for Bolt - he's just as untested as James, but less athletic, much weaker, and insanely smaller. Zero chance. You really seem to underestimate how much difference 70 lbs of muscle makes.

Initially I was also thinking Lebron for the same reasons big has been mentioning.

More I think about though I might have to switch my answer to Couture.

I'm assuming his skills AND body are maxed? He got a very late start in MMA (33 years old lol) so his talent and his body never quite matched up. But if you taking his peak career fighting talent and tossing it into his 30 year old nearly Olympic level wrestling body then the man will be nearly unstoppable.

For reference, on a sports science show, they strapped Couture into a series of performance tests and analyzed his body for stress and fatigue responses- acid buildup, heart rate, oxygen levels etc.

The dude was like 45 years old at the time but his tests were registering amongst other peak athletes in their twenties. Couture doesn't get tired.

If you had his end of career skills in his younger body he would be an absolute monster. Man finished Liddell in 3 rounds during a time people thought Liddell was invincible. Then he ABSOLUTELY demolished Tito Ortiz in his prime. Embarrassing him and spanking the dudes butt. Tito had literally 0 success against him from start to finish.
