Hollywood Reporter mentioned the idea that they might be splitting the second season, ending with an arc then a one-off story, then opening the second part normally but having a one-off in the middle of the second part.

I am really happy it is getting a 2nd season. Someone at Netflix must see the value because the next season should cover Seasons of Mist, and with all the effects and characters in that story it is not going to be cheap.
