Collecting Every Definitive Story

This may not be possible, as collecting is subjective BUT...

Have any of you or has anyone you know ever attempted to collect every major storyline of every major character (Example: the best of Batman, Superman, JLA, Spider-man, X-men, Avengers, F.F., Daredevil, Black Panther etc.) ? Is that even possible and if so, do we have to define what stories are establish or are they already well-defined?

If someone collected Batman Year One, the Oneil/Adams stuff, the Englehart/Rogers Batman ETC. and then decided they wanted to do that with every character/team from the Big 2 and Image... has it been done OR can it even?

It all depends on how you define "definitive"

I usually collect writers as opposed to character

So I have have Hickman's Marvel oeuvre, Morrison's Batman, JLA, and New X-Men, Bendis' New Avengers, so on and so forth.

Right now the only "complete work" that I am collecting is Dawn of X era X-Men

I'll try to do as many as I know, the others you'll have to look them up. I might come back to this list if I find I missed out something.
I will only do the big 2 (DC, Marvel), but there are great heroes at Valliant (X-O Manowar), IDW (TMNT), Dark Horse (Hellboy), Image Comics (Kick-Ass), ...
