If you were to list the top ten solo franchises at DC who would you list? I think it goes:

That’s a team. I was counting solo franchises. In terms of teams Teen Titans is up there with Justice League and Suicide Squad in notoriety and popularity

Wait, why is "Green Lantern" a solo and Teen Titans a franchise? What's the difference? Both of them are composed of multiple characters. Hal doesn't carry his whole franchise alone, it's made of at least 5 guys (and one lady)

I think the problem here is how to define what a "franchise" is.

I think the problem here is how to define what a "franchise" is.

I mean Green Lantern has often been a “solo” title. Sometimes it focuses on the whole Corp but it’s not uncommon for one Lantern to be the focus with everyone else as supporting cast.

I think for the most part those are the guys who typically have a title out and probably have the most solo issues under their belts. Eh my mistake I read the franchises not characters after making this post


I guess swap batgirl and supergirl for Hawkman and honestly it gets pretty blurry after that Captain Marvel? He had a movie recently and I guess we could consider Black Adam a spin-off not to mention his animated movie with Superman.

Doom Patrol might count as a franchise? Sort of like Teen Titans, etc. The teams are a franchise but I get we are going for individual characters.

Swamp Thing should probably be at 10 or 11.

Constantine, Swamp Thing, Jonah Hex all had their own movies at one point, as well as long running comics.

1. Batman (includes Batgirl, Batwoman, Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and all his various spin offs). Easily the most successful franchise DC has.

2. Superman (includes Supergirl, Superboy, Steel, Powergirl and all his various spin-offs). Easily DC’s number two franchise.

3. Wonder Woman (includes Donna Troy, Wonder Girl, Yara Flor, Nubia and the various Amazons). She’s arguably DC’s number three franchise based on the strength of the alpha (Diana) and how iconic she is.

4. Flash(includes Wally West, Jay Garrick, Jesse Chambers and all the various speedsters). The tv show has helped elevate the notoriety and popularity of the brand. Barry would be the alpha.

5. Green Lantern (includes all the various Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Kyle Rayner...etc). The alpha is debatable between Hal and John, though with DC’s push for diversity it should be John.

6. Aquaman (includes Mera, Aqualad, Aquagirl, The Others and various spin-offs). He has gotten a huge increase in recent years thanks to the DCEU and Jason Mamoa

7. Shazam (includes Mary Marvel, Darla Dudley, Pedro Peña, Eugene Choi, Captain Marvel Jr and Black Adam). Has seen a surge in popularity thanks to the DCEU.

8. Green Arrow (includes Black Canary, Roy Harper, Arrowette and all the various Arrow sidekicks). He’s on this list thanks to the success and popularity of his arrowverse show.

9. The Hawks (includes Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Golden Eagle and all the various spin-offs). The alpha for this franchise is debatable but I think both Hawks lead this franchise as equals.

10. Constantine/Swamp Thing This one can go either way! Both have long running comic series, shows and movies under the belt as well as prominence in the DCU. I’d probably give it to Constantine though

After that you get your B-list franchises in Deathstroke, Lobo, Firestorm, Blue Beetle, Atom, Dr Fate, Animal Man Plastic Man, Captain Atom, Spectre, Booster Gold and Static.

Everyone else are basically team characters first and foremost or under developed franchise leads (Amethyst, Black Lightning, Hawk and Dove). Crazy to think Diana is the only female leading a franchise, whereas the other share with a male (Hawkgirl, Dove) or are under developed (Amethyst).
