I agree with what seems like the majority: Excalibur has been a bit of a mess. The characters don't often feel whole, and in fact the cast doesn't seem to have any real reason to be in this book beyond being chosen by the writer or editors: you could swap out Rogue, Gambit, and Jubilee and replace them with pretty much anyone and the book would feel the same. Also, whenever I read a new issue, it always feels like I've missed something -- rarely does one issue lead cleanly into the next, in my opinion.
And it's a shame, too -- because Apocalypse's situation was one of the major draws to me in the Dawn of X era, and I wanted to enjoy his sidestory a little more than I did. (And don't get me started on how little this Rictor feels like the one I know from X-Factor and the Shatterstar mini.) I also thought that Betsy becoming Captain Britain was an interesting co-premise for the book; but I just can't seem to find a reason to care what happens to anyone who appears in this book.
That being said, I'm giving X-Corp a chance. I'm excited to see Monet continue to get the spotlight, and perhaps the topic of the book will allow for more success from Howard, due to their actual corporate experience in the real world.
With SWORD, X-Corp, and Way of X joining the line, I may end up dropping some of the more disappointing X books -- Excalibur included.
