Fabian is completing the story he started back in the 90s, he's not going to undo or retcon his own intended work. Fabian already penned in 1995's Captain Marvel #3 that Adam-X was D'Ken's son by a human female (heavily alluded to be Katherine Summers) to "produce a hybrid of specific genetic potential into the Shi'ar monarchy".

Fabian's been pretty vocal over the years that Adam-X was created to be Scott & Alex's half-brother, just that he himself never got to finish that storyline. He's otherwise also not undoing Katherine's history - she didn't physically birth Adam-X (this seems to be an early teased panel from X-Men Legends #1).

If anything the vulcan story was a copy of what Nicieza was trying to do in the 90s. Good that they will give him a chance to finish it and put on continuity

This would totally be possible. Katherine Summers may have been kept in D'Ken's harem and he may have forced himself on her, but Adam was not conceived from any physical contact between Katherine and D'Ken.

Imagine the scenario as such (and this hasn't been detailed out yet, but mostly pieced together based on what's already been published):

• Katherine's pregnant with Gabriel when she and Corsair are abducted. We'll assume it's early on in the pregnancy as she's not 'showing' in any of the previously shown flashbacks (and Scott does not recall or doesn't know his mother was pregnant)
• Likely Katherine/Corsair's captivity is over the course of months, during which Gabriel continues to grow/gestate within Katherine
• Some time during this period, Shi'ar scientists extract and catalog Katherine's DNA (during this period, the Shi'ar were doing this for various species across the galaxy)
• At some point, those scientists take their sample of Katherine's DNA and combine it with D'Ken's to create a genetic hybrid (perhaps while cataloging they discovered mutant potential in Katherine's DNA) and grow the embryo in a lab/hatchery
• D'Ken cuts out near-term Gabriel and kills Katherine in front of Corsair (and places Gabriel in a gestation chamber) >> detailed out in X-Men: Deadly Genesis
• At some point Adam is "born" (again from a lab or hatchery) and sent to live and grow up on the Shi'ar planet Ch'reesharaa (circumstances unknown but likely to be revealed in X-Men Legends)

Order of last two bullets is unclear (was Gabriel or Adam born first?) - probably doesn't matter ultimately but more that Gabriel was developing in utero (until moved to the gestation chamber), while Adam was completely ex utero. This is completely in line with Shi'ar practices (and I think growing young in external chambers and hatcheries was a common especially with royalty). Xandra, Lilandra and Professor X's daughter, was conceived and "hatched" (2018) way after both were killed (Lilandra assassinated in War of Kings #4 (2009) and Charles after he was killed by Dark Phoenix/Scott (2012)).

I hope Adam X is not Scott's brother. We already have three Summer brothers and that's enough.

At first I thought Adam X was the third Summers then came Gabriel Summers who turned out to be the thirds.

Why not have a second Iceman or Angel brother instead?

Reading this just makes me want Marvel to drop a one-shot totally outside canon book of a giant X-Men family reunion where everyone related to an X-man character -- alive or otherwise -- shows up. But I guess that would probably take about 100 pages.

Why is Kitty on the cover, is she in this? I'm interested in this story but at this stage Kitty's involvement seems out of place, as she would be teammates with someone who would have a vested interested in this family.

I doubt Kitty is in this story, as mentioned the cover for the first issue depicts characters who will be featured in the series, not necessarily this issue. I imagine Kitty's story will be a Claremont issue.

I really liked him as Burner in Secet Wars, that was an awesome upgrade. Unfortunately, as we saw in a recent X-Factor issue, they still make him look like in the 90s. A Burner upgrade would be more than welcome.

I never noticed how unpleasant the old all caps lettering is, I hope they stick with the mixed case even after Hickman's run ends.

It's funny you mentioned the lettering....I posted about this when the new run of X books was released a while back with the new font and lettering, which actually bugs me more than the traditional all caps.
