Default Protectors of the Green: Swamp Thing Appreciation 2021

This one felt a little weird to start given that we are about to have a completely new Swamp Thing in Levi Kamei in about two weeks. However, it appears Holland is sticking around in the dc universe as an Avatar of the Green, maybe even an advisor to Levi. In that case, might as well make an overall Swamp Thing appreciation thread to appreciate the original and the new.

I'm really looking forward to the new mini series. Ram V has yet to disappoint, and I think his Swamp Thing is going to be epic!

Ended up picking up his Future State issues and they were pretty good, loved panels explaining how Swamp Thing created his people so that it didn't feel like generic magic spell.

    Gorgeous.

I really hope this limited series does well enough to warrant another (*fingers crossed*). Based on these previews and V's previous work, I already know I'm gonna love it!

Before this "Future State" stuff hit, didn't Swamp Thing get a recent upgrade where he's now also connected to the Red somehow?

Looking good, is it same artist as the one who did Future State?

From the finale of Ram V’s Justice League Dark, Holland Swamp Thing I think used them resources of the other forces and then was able to travel through the multiverse into the upside down man’s world.

Also in Death Metal he absorbed the parliament of trees so maybe that also has an effect.

Yes I believe so, it should be Mike Perkins on both.

Yeah, I just found this article from December 2020:

Just read issue one of the new Swamp Thing mini, overall I’m very intrigued by this new guy in the role of Swamp Thing and Mike Perkins does a good job on art making this feel like a horror/mystery thriller.

Though I will say, as someone who is not the biggest Swamp Thing reader, I got in with the new 52 run and Justice League Dark, I have a question that concerns Levi.

    spoilers:
Is it normal that the Avatar of the green can switch back to being a person? Because the story indicated that Levi transformed before in India and then we see him go back to normal after he gets attacked by the Pale Wanderer.
    end of spoilers

To my knowledge, this is the first time we've seen that.

    spoilers:
Okay because it surprised me when he transformed into Swamp Thing, got ripped apart, and then just returned to being a person again later. I just thought he would attempt to reconstitute like Holland has in the past and be stuck as Swamp Thing, so interesting distinction between Holland and Levi.
