    Default Is Con Air Realistic?

Could the events of the 1997 film Con Air occur in the real world?

In the sense of the artistic movement of showing subjects set in everyday life, perhaps. In the sense of being even slightly plausible as something that could happen, hell no!

Who cares if it's realistic or not? The important things is that it was fun, and that's good enough for me!

On 9/11/2001 terrorists took down a plane. So the idea that some criminals could take over a plane, sure why not?

Is there something specific you are questioning?
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

    One thing's for sure...

    Cage's hair in that flick?

    It is the realest.

There are lots of movies where I find the story and action to be kind of meh, but enjoy Cage. For Con Air, its the opposite, the story and action are loads of fun but Cage was meh (except his hair of course!)

An army ranger probably wouldn't be sentenced to prison for self defense.

Any prison transport is likely to be much better organized than that and less likely for a major break out like that.

    Nobody naturally has that accent.

There are probably a few more unrealistic aspects of it, but, hey, it doesn't claim to be a documentary.

The movie starts off pretty grounded and just gets more and more impracticle as the movie goes on to the point of achieving a fever dream like quality. Like, why would 2 FBI and DEA bureaucrats John Cusack and discount John C Reilly be able to ride a helicopter?

Also after wathcing Face Off, Bad Lieutenant, Vampire's Kiss, and Con Air back to back I think Nicolas Cage might be the greatest actor Hollywood has ever given us.

Christopher Nolan WISHES he could capture the realism of Con Air.

8 Millimeter is a good film. It's crazy how it's the next movie Schumacher directed after Batman and Robin. I'm also convinced after seeing this and True Romance that James Gandolfini can only play smarmy Italian men, but hs's the best at it.
