    That's outstanding.

I'll be double dipping for both covers. Can't pick just one.

Someone who tried to nuke an entire state off the map doesn't get parole.

"tried to.." being the key defense here.

Injustice Harley Quinn didn’t even go to jail so maybe the DCU views nukes as minor crimes

Even setting aside the ludicrous notion that a guy responsible for all the crimes Luthor commited would get parole, just thinking about the timeline of this makes my head hurt. This is set between Superman 1 and 2, right?

So, enough time has passed that Luthor has not only been tried and convicted, but also served enough of his prison sentence to be eligible for parole?

    What?

The very idea of this breaks the versamilitude that Donner tried so hard to create.

Let's hope this is addressed in the story itself. Perhaps Luthor managed to weasel out of the charges and only got convicted of living in an illegal apartment under the subways?

Listening to a podcast interview Venditti did, and apparently I had it wrong. This takes place between Superman 2 and Superman 3.

Luthor had committed TWO crimes by that point. Trying to destroy California and teaming up with Zod to take over the world. That makes this decision even worse.

Well, setting if after Superman II solves the time problem, but it makes Luthor getting paroled even less plausible because, in that movie, irregardless of which cut you're watching, Luthor escapes from prison. They don't grant early parole to guys who've escaped from prison.

I really hope this gets explained in the story because it's idiotic in its conception.

... hmm. I wonder what are the power limits on this version of Superman, with all of the developments in film, cartoons and comics that have taken place since 1980.

Reeve Superman was straight up Silver Age Superman in terms of pulling new powers out of his ass as the plot demanded.
