I didn't see the game live (I was at work) but watching the replay I think Bohm still hasn't touched the plate on that play. It looked like his lead foot was not touching the ground and got knocked away from the plate and his rear leg was blocked from the plate and the tag applied. I'm not quite sure how replay upheld that one, but good on the Phillies for rallying in that game. I like seeing that kind of fight in teams.

Look, I'm a Phillies fan, and I don't think Bohm touched the plate, and I've looked at that replay a dozen times. I can only assume the ump called Bohm safe because the Braves catcher blocked the plate, or something like that.

I looked it up, Blocking the plate is illegal, EXCEPT when the catcher has the ball. The Atlanta catcher had the ball, so his knee knocking Bohm's leg was legal. Bohm was out. As one of the Atlamta players said, "What is the point of reply if they can't overturn anything." So within a week we have this and the Mets game where a bad call that was obvious on replay (actually the Mets game didn't need reply, since you can't have a hit batter call on a strike) where the call changed the winner of the game. Will MLB do anything? Nah.

Thanks for the clarification, Kirby101. As a Phillies fan, I'm happy to accept last night's gift from the umps. When my team gets hosed on a call sometime down the road (perhaps the next time we play Atlanta), I'll try to be more understanding.

Not even 10 games into the season and the officiating crews are already creating a ton of controversy for themselves, first the horrendous HBP call in the Mets/Marlins, and now the replay crew completely botches this

like holy Hell that's bad, I mean the Umpire's head is pointed the wrong way and and it's in real time so I can go with him missing the initial call but there's no excuse for the replay crew in New York

Initially from the ump angle in real time, he looks WAAAY out.

Watching from the pitcher angle, he looks safe in real time.

Watching in slow-mo at the 5 available angles, his toe and foot hop the plate. When it is over the plate but not touching, the tag occurs, so no tie.

I dunno ... he looks out at ump and batter's angles.

Not sure why he was safe??

Having not read or seen this till this thread, I was expecting the home ump to call him out and a field ump to call him safe. But that wasn't the case here.

Red Sox Twins game today postponed because of the unrest in Minneapolis over the Daunte Wright police shooting. Twins decided ot call off the game after consulting MLB.

As did the Minnesota Wild of the NHL. Makes sense with curfews in place now.
