And with a sweep of the Nats coupled with the Reds taking 2 out of 3 against the Phillies the Braves move into 1st place by themselves for the first time this season

Would've been nice if Aaron Nola turned in a solid performance for the Phils today, but he came up short, giving up four runs in just four innings. Frustrating.

To be honest I am shocked by that. The Reds did not look good last night.

    Let's see:

Tekulve: a Pittsburgh closer the Phils obtained in the mid 80's
Hughes: played one season for the Phils in the late 80's
    Lake: backup catcher, early 90's
Daulton: all-star catcher, part of the 93 World Series team
    Grotewold: never heard of him
    Fletcher: never heard of him
    Hoskins: current Phils first baseman
Gross: starter from the mid 80's
Jordan: utility player from the late 80's
    Frohwirth: never heard of him

    Hope that helps

I dont feel as bad since you didnt know some of the players. One thing I really do love is getting cards and seeing a player I want to learn more about. I have a whole notebook of players names bios teams they played for and stats. And I watch a lot of old games on Youtube so it is cool to see some of these guys pop up.

Who would you say your favorite Phillies player is of all time?

Well, those were players I mostly knew off the top of my head without Googling, and, admittedly, I wasn't entirely certain on the dates. As for my all time favorite Phillie, hands down....Michael Jack Schmidt!

So, with the weekend in the books, here's the standings in NL East:

    Atlanta (62-56)
    Philadelphia (61-57, 1 game behind)
New York Mets (59-58, 2.5 behind)

The Braves, whom I've probably said have the most talent in the division rode a weekend sweep of Washington into first place while my Phillies came up short in losing two of three to Cincinnati. Then there's the Mets who appear to have collapsed after getting swept at home by the Dodgers. With the start of the new week, here's the upcoming schedule....

    Atlanta: @Miami, Giants
    Philadelphia: @Arizona, Arizona
    Mets: @Giants, Washington

The Braves figure to have little trouble with the Fish before a tough weekend at home against San Fran, my Phillies face a home and home battle with the NL worst Snakes while the Mets go west to face the Giants, then host the Nats. Given the mediocre state of the division, I wouldn't be surprised if all three teams go 3-3 and little changes in the standings come this time next Monday.

    Oh, but of course.

Just got an alert that the Padres signed Jake Arietta who had been cut by the Cubs not too long ago.

I saw a report on SI.com that said he's going to start on Wednesday.
