Another fine actor (whom I could see play Mike Brady) would be Dick Van Dyke. He could have gotten along well with the cast, as well as the Producers of the show:

Dick Van Dyke is a wonderful entertainer but despite his on-set tantrums, nobody could've played Mike Brady the way Robert Reed did. It's unfortunate that he was such a pain behind the scenes because on-camera, he was the perfect tv dad.

Dick Van Dyke is definitely the star comedian of any show he's in. The Mike Brady role was more of a straight man. The Brady Bunch had too large a cast to focus it all on one cast member.

Diagnosis Murder ran 8 years. I'm sure Dick Van Dyke could have played Mike Brady straight.
