Uncanny X-men 248 (volume 1) First issue with Jim Lee. I had no idea who any of these people were besides Wolverine and I had to go back and read about them!
Classic X-men was the other. I don’t recall the issue number. When they were being held by the Hellfire Club during the Dark Phoenix Saga. The back up story was also drawn by Jim Lee!

I think i was heading into 7th grade.

If we want to count Wolverine's series, the first X-men comic I ever read was Wolverine #73.


But if you want an actual comic that has X-men in the title, it was probably Uncanny #305. My memory is a bit fuzzy on that one.

X-men the early years!

X-Men #1 (from '63) in Son of Origins which I got as a Christmas gift in the mid-70s. I only knew the Beast from his appearances in the Avengers comics of the 70s.

The first actual comic issue I read was a beat up hand-me-down copy of X-Men #84 I got from a neighbor shortly afterwards.

X-Men 103. I was in 3rd grade and had never seen the word "uncanny" before ("uncanny" was inside).
I got Son of Origins of Marvel Comics around the same time, but I'm not sure if I read the X-Men #1 origin before #103.

For me it was Legion Question's "Dreams Die!" X-Men (Vol. 2) #41 right before Age of Apocalypse started.

So my first X-Men have been AoA's versions. I still wait for my REAL X-Men to return and that those weird spoiled 616 impostors go away already!!!

I feel extremely nostalgic ever time I see Blink appear somewhere in the background.

sad truth, it actually never really got a lot better than those first comics in the 1990s.

[Uncanny X-Man]

The Italian edition of this was published many years after its US publication (there used to be a lag of a number of years until the early 90s when the gap became much shorter) and the issue was sold together with a pin featuring Storm's head, so as a kid that's what actually attracted me. The problem was that I thought Storm was a man - what can I say, I'd never seen a punk woman before! I read the issue and could hardly comprehend anything that was happening, so I wasn't really hooked at that time.



Some time after that, this came out with the last Uncanny X-Men chapter of Inferno. Again I found this very complex to get into but in an extremely captivating way that compelled me to seek out the back issues and find out as much as I could about all the characters' history. It was also a very fascinating recap of Jean Grey, Madelyne Pryor and the Phoenix's histories which made me fall in love with those characters and concepts instantly.
