I take from this that you'd prefer the X-Men to be in a separate continuity? Do you mean like when the Avengers and F.F were shunted off to a pocket universe after Onslaught, leaving X-Men and Spidey in the 616?

naur just the x-men on their own universe, alone and at peace.
the only non x-men propriety I think is important/relevant to the x-men is captain brittain lore wich is omniversal in nature.

If the x-men never share another page with avengers/spiderman/fantastic four, nothing is lost.

Mystique doesn't need to be anywhere near a hero team. Having her on your team is just asking to be stabbed in the back.

Anyway, my number one choice for the Avengers would be Iceman. I think he'd actually fit in there better than the does in the X-books. He's always felt more like he'd fit in with the classic superheroes to me more than the majority of the X-men.

I can also remember an Avengers comic that started with Storm and Colossus joining the team. It turned out to be an alternate reality, but I still think they'd fit in well there.

I can honestly see why the Xmen fandom has the reputation that it does
