    Speaking of masks

Can Wearing a Mask Reduce My Allergy Symptoms?

While cloth and medical masks do a good job of protecting us from viral particles, studies show masks also can be effective at filtering common allergens, which typically float around in much larger sizes, making them easier to block. Pine tree pollen, for example, is about 800 times larger than the coronavirus, said Dr. David Lang, an allergist at Cleveland Clinic. Even before the pandemic, he advised patients with severe allergies to wear a mask outside, especially for prolonged activities like gardening or yardwork.

Using masks to alleviate allergy symptoms can require a bit of “trial and error,” said Dr. Purvi Parikh, an allergist and immunologist at N.Y.U. Langone Health. But over all, “if there’s less pollen going into your nose and mouth, you’re less likely to have an allergy attack,” she said.
Although the findings suggest that wearing a mask can reduce allergy symptoms for some people, the researchers noted that more study is needed. It could be that the nurses experienced fewer symptoms because, when they weren’t working, they were staying home and avoiding crowds during lockdowns, and thus had less exposure to allergens in the environment. But the fact that mask wearing, which covers the nose and mouth, was associated with improvements in nasal symptoms, but not eye irritation, suggests that masking probably did help reduce many allergy symptoms.

In addition to filtering out allergens, wearing a mask also makes the air in our nasal cavities warmer and more humid, said Dr. Dror. “We know that dry air and cold air sometimes has the ability to elicit a reaction in the nose,” he said. “This is an extra benefit of wearing a mask. With all the bad, you can find some good.”

Honestly, this was probably the reason the rule for ‘you still need to wear a mask after getting vaxxed’ was there in the first place. To kept anti maskers from using the excuse. And now it had become counter productive, so why bother with it anymore?

Around here in the LA area of California, the retailers and other businesses all still have their "mask up" signs on the doors. So people are masking up, regardless of the CDC, President or Governor's statements.

Its been interesting working out near the Arizona and California border. Arizona has no mask restrictions, California does. So essentially masks are considered to be optional wherever you go.

Ultimately I think there will just be an understanding that masks are optional. Short of carding people, thats all you can do.

It is going to be easy to tell who has had the vaccine even if they are not wearing a mask. just ask them who won the election.

Didn't Biden, Harris, Pelosi, and most other top Democrats earlier this year and late last year vow to never take the "Trump" vaccines? Until they did for reasons unknown?

    Oh, yes, yes they did:

    Many media types too, IIRC

It's true there are many stupid Republicans. But....I don't think much of people as listed above who use a pandemic for political gain, whether they be Trump, or those others.

We've had a terrible but probably vastly better response to this than we might have had; but we could have had a much better response if all sides had pulled together.

    Washington Examiner...that explains it.

Kamala Harris says Trump not credible on possible COVID-19 vaccine

WASHINGTON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris said she would not take President Donald Trump’s word alone on any potential coronavirus vaccine.

In an interview excerpt broadcast by CNN on Saturday, Harris said Trump had a track record of suppressing expert opinion about the coronavirus pandemic and worried that might happen again in the case of a prospective vaccine.

“I would not trust Donald Trump,” she said, saying she would only be convinced of the efficacy of a vaccine if someone credible were vouching for it as well.

“I will not take his word for it.”
Harris suggested to CNN that Trump might seize on a vaccine - no matter how untested - to burnish his image.
This has nothing to do with the vaccine as per say, it had to do with Trump's track record of promoting things that others wouldn't, that he might use the vaccine solely for political purposes and not for the sake fo the people. She was saying that she wanted to hear from the scientists and Public Health experts first.

Every politician used the vaccine for political means. Trump pushed it because he wanted to show he was doing something for Covid, Biden pushed his 100 million people in 100 days because he wanted to prove he was doing more then Trump ever did. Biden wearing a mask while he was alone in a zoom call was silly but he was pushing masks hard. Now every politician will push what they did to make the mask mandate being dropped. It is called politics.

It should be called clear leadership. Though with WHO and the CDC constantly changing their recommendations, It's hard to know who if anyone to believe as to specifics.

Im not debating that. Things changed by the hour. it seemed. hell two days ago we still had to wear masks even if we had the shot. now ther eis no danger if you had the shot. A week from now it could change.

But the fact is this is the biggest event in our generation. To pretend it was never going to be political (Not you just people in general) is a lack of understanding on how political systems and humans More to the point American politicians work. Every elected official from the president to city council members were always going to wave their flag and say what they did was the right thing and what the other side did was not enough/an over reaction. And in the end it wont matter what they say because everyone will believe their side did the best. Trumpers believe he did everything right, Biden backers will call him the savior of America. It is what it is.

To a certain extent, but to deny that some politicians do try to do the right thing by their constituencies. Constituencies could be as small as a town or as big as a country. True, politics colors everything to an extent, but if all politicians only did things solely and purely for their own political ends, this country would be crippled beyond repair.

No they did not. They explicitly said they would listen to health officials and scientist when the vaccine was approved. Not Trump, whose health advise had been dangerously unhinged. Trump wanted the vaccine released before the clinical trials were over.

Harris said "She told the Wisconsin ABC-affiliate she'd wait until "the public health professionals and the scientists told us that we can trust it."" That is not reasons unknown, that is a clear announcement.

Im not saying that they dont do things to help. Im saying that even the ones who do things to help it still becomes political because they or their backers will point out all the things they did to helpo.
