Default Is it legal to remove a single smoke alarm if there are others in the apartment?

I recognize the importance of smoke alarms of course, but the one in my room is affecting with my sleep.

It depends on your lease agreement, you would have to ask management...

How is it affecting your sleep?

Is it making a noise, like it needs a new battery?

Does it emit some sort of light?

Definitely check with someone (like a landlord) to see if there's a problem with the device. Or, it might be trying to tell you something.

As someone that has installed fire and carbon monoxide alarms (my grandmother owns several apartments that I've helped with); at least where those are, its by law to have one per bedroom. So I would call the landlord before doing anything.
