Default ‘Superman’ movie reboot with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing, J.J Abrams producing

    From Deadline:

"Deadline has confirmed that Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing a Superman reboot feature for Warner Bros and DC, which J.J. Abrams is producing under his Bad Robot label.

Hannah Minghella will serve as producer. No plot yet and no attachments despite the fact that we’ve heard how Henry Cavill is eager to get back into the cape.

Coates is attached to a Ryan Coogler directed drama feature entitled Wrong Answer about a math teacher in Atlanta who is scandalized when he looks to get funding for his school by altering his students’ test scores. Michael Jordan is attached to Wrong Answer.

Abrams has a big half billion deal over at WarnerMedia which he closed in September 2019."

Superman's going to be black and I'm here for it.

This is the most exciting Superman news in years.

Let's see, how did the DCEU do in accomplishing the Superman checklist?

    [x] Origin story
    [x] He dies
    [x] Evil

Yup, a reboot is past due.

About the writer of the project:

"Ta-Nehisi Paul Coates is an American author and journalist. Coates gained a wide readership during his time as a national correspondent at The Atlantic, where he wrote about cultural, social, and political issues, particularly regarding African Americans and white supremacy. He has also written a Black Panther series and a Captain America series for Marvel Comics."

Any chance this is going to be the Michael B Jordan Superman movie rumored a while back?

It sounds like we're getting a black Superman. If it isn't Val Zod and is instead the main DCU Superman with a race change, I'm afraid there's going to be more backlash than ever before that will plague the movie from start to finish.

I hope it's Val-Zod, it would be cool if they used this movie to jumpstart an Earth 2 universe and we can get Power Girl and more

Michael B. Jordan showed interest for the Calvin Ellis version of Superman. It's likely him instead of Val.

Ah well I'll still appreciate this. That would mean Nubia would be likely as well and that would make a lot of people happy too

From Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter:

"Will audiences be introduced to a Black Superman? That is the intent and something that the studio has been trying to find a way in for months if not a year or two, according to sources."

A big film reboot featuring another Superman besides Clark would be a lot more concerning to me. I'd be more open to a black actor playing Clark than Calvin or Val-Zod being the starring character, though I'd be open to seeing both of them in team ups/spin offs.

I don't know. To me this just says they still don't have confidence in the character as is, so they need to attach this as a gimmick to sell him and generate buzz.
