It was only revealed in the recent trailer, so nothing on why yet. Some reports from early screenings make it sound like the Transformers have been stranded on Earth since the 80s.

Megs as a good guy, or at least no longer an antagonist, has been played with in recent media. IDW had him become an Autobot, Machinima's Prime Wars had him as a sort of anti-hero, and the end of Transformers Prime had him renounce the Decepticons.

I hadn't seen any of those, though it is an interesting development.

Apparently this is G1.5 where some of the basics of the original series happened, but it's not concrete. They actually use a G1 style for an introduction to the world of the show.

I'm wondering if they're going to write off Starscream as being dead or plotting his own Decepticon resurgence. Because he's the one major 'Con (other than Shockwave) who we haven't seen yet.
