I’m not saying it’s what people want or how well he told it but it’s not inherently inaccurate to me especially considering that Kara was old enough to live through that.
That's the thing, though. This isn't the Pre-Crisis origin. That one had Kara be born in Argo City after the destruction of Krypton. No, King here fused the modern origin of her living through the death of Krypton with the Pre-Crisis origin of her living through the death of Argo City and combined them for maximum angst so she didn't survive 1 holocaust but 2 (and actually 3 by also adding the deaths before installing the lead shields) while also innovating in the angst department by having her work on the lead shields of Argo and killing Alura before everyone else.

So my initial reaction was less "oh, poor Kara" and more "King really likes his angst porn, doesn't he? But then again I already knew that". Again, this might change in re-read.

Okay so it was a mix, wasn't 100% sure because its been a while since I read the golden age origin.

Funnily enough, now that I think about it... this is Zor-El's and Alura's Pre-Crisis story, pretty much. Except without having the time to build a new a life in Argo City before it's all taken away.

That’s the thing with Tom King, he’s actually really good at remembering continuity and stories in the past that have happened. But a bit like an elseworld he takes that thing that happened twists it and then makes it part of his Drama. Although personally I like Tom King I just don’t care for heroes in crisis or the last half of his Batman run.

Yeah I loved this. Amazing art and Kara being the one for whom Krypton’s death is a colossal burden she’s always carrying because she felt the reality of it works great for me. Kara and Comet outracing a Mordu globe to the end of time was a very fun “Super” feat, felt very Morrison-esque.

Liked the issue. Really enjoyed the Comet ride juxtaposed with the Krypton/Argo City story. Some of the best art/color combos yet, and the end of the chase was pretty great. Bonus points for the letter work on the “pop” sound effect on kiboshing the Mordru Globe. Perfect.

Also really liked her smug confidence at the end of the issue, totally not fearing whatever Krem has left at this point. Her opening panels (“hello, I’m Supergirl… you shot my f— dog”) had shades of Inego Montoya, heh.

After reading her story on Argo City (very similar to the pre-Crisis one), Superman's move to abandon a traumatized girl in an orphanage on an alien planet practically 5 minutes her arrival rises, in retrospect, to epic levels of super-dic##ry.

Pre-Crisis Superman was a huge dick, they just never called him out on it.

To be completely fair, it came across as a huge dick move even back then. The first half of Siegel's work with Kara back then reads like "hey, doesn't Kara's situation where Clark not only refused to take care of her but also asked her to protect his secret identity... suck inmensely? Doesn't it make Clark a huge dick?"

Feel like that would be more meaningful in the before times. CBR ain't exactly a bastion of quality these days.

Even getting New Krypton wouldn't heal the trauma of loss to begin with too, would make it hurt less sure, but it'd still be there.

I mean, Kara herself had about as much angst from everyone in Argo dying as she had from stubbing her toe lol.

Sometimes it's pointed out that he's mean, but it's never done seriously.

The last Supergirl pages are in. I can’t speak highly enough about the grace and ferocity with which @BilquisEvely and @_matlopes_ have told this story. I’m in awe of their artistry and so, so proud of this book.

Not that this hasn't been said before, but holy moly the art and colors on this book...
