a few things love duggan his marvel work has been great and this was no exception but sales were awful the kid cable did not work and i know this board particualry cant stand liefeld but people have no idea the amount of requests and asks he gets about bringing the real cable back. Also a ton of prep work in hickmans bible was done with regards to the character and marvel was kinda of locked in with the story beats cause of the pandemic and couldnt change on the fly the amount of negative feedback marvel got was substantail not just fans many retailers too.

the main 2 reasons why the book failed we just had what was it 5 years of the o5 who everyone agrees stayed way too long and seeing those kids than kid cable was too much. Also we have had younger cable before in the adv cyclops and phoenix ls the askani son book cable issue 25 and the entire early run of X-MAn which were far superior storeis.

Dont worry ive heard some of the early plans for when the OG CAble comes back and if it goes according to what ive heard it will be very very cool.

i hope other titles get refreshed or rebooted with writers or different artists. It would be a nice shot of change.

At least when OG comes back, I can post the "Who the f**k is that?" song.
    "Cable was right!"

I think they always have a plan B. I think that they at some point believed that they could try to make a success out of Kids Cable, but had a black up plan in case things went wrong.

They really tried to make kids Cable happen, 2 team books and a solo.

The pattern feels the same. Take a archtypical 90's character who somehow managed to remain popular (partialy because of being unashamed 90's) and try to create a newer, hipper and "prettier" version. Bonus points for the new version killing the old and mocking them.

Though Kid Cable managed to stick around for far longer than those examples i think, though perhaps not because of actual popularity as much as the editors trying to keep them around.

However at least unlike other editorial enforced X-men additions Kid Cable will get a proper wrap up.
I think Slim Lobo stuck about the same time 2-3 years. Kid Cable has the advantage of being Cyclops and jean's son

I assume that, when the big two assign smaller tier books to creators, they offer them a 12 issue+ (1 year+) contract position, with more issues dependent on the first year. That’s what seemed to be the case with Spurrior’s Hellblazer where we said the book wasn’t cancelled, it just wasn’t renewed due to COVID.

The cynic in me will say that all smaller tier books are 12 issue maxi series until proven otherwise.

Cable replacing his younger self on SWORD just wouldn't work because Cable's always been kind of a rebel soldier at heart, not following authority like that of Abigail Brand. Bishop replacing young Cable in SWORD would work best while Cable joins X-Force and hopefully ends up supplanting Beast (or just shooting him through the skull).

He wouldn't be choose to rebel agains Brand, specially that she is a control freak.

Bishop would work because he actully is a secutirity specialist

Sad to hear this book is ending. But it has been a great run thus far. I'm in favor of quality over quantity with respect to X-Books. I would much rather have a series end strong than just see it fizzle out or crash.

How could it work? "Kid" Cable was never the Cable writers knew. Of course they were going to run into a brick wall with the whole concept.

It's pretty much the same reason Nate Grey and the various things associated with him doesn't really work..

I'd also be curious to understand what Brisson's (Paniccia's? He was the main X-editor at the time if I recall correctly) original plans for Kid Cable involved. Or rather if there was an endgame besides "this might be fun". Same as Bendis' original endgame for the O5 - I'd love to know if he pitched that with a specific ending in mind or if he was just making things up on the way.

I also have a feeling Excalibur might end before the end of the year. With the rumours flying around about a Captain Britain project in the MCU, it wouldn't surprise me to see it relaunched as a Captain Britain Corps book or something similar.
