This was announced around the time ENDGAME came out, although not much seems to have come of it since, perhaps due to Coronavirus and the Tom Holland film they worked on.

There was of course the Raimi-produced 2015 film, which was sort of a 'meh' remix of the original story, updating some of the cultural references (The 80's film is well, extremely 80s) and switching up the characters somewhat (The two other siblings-especially the brother-are given much more to do, whereas in the original they are written out of a lot of the film's middle act). However, it lacked most of the eeriness of the original (apart from a look at the other side). The boss ghost The Beast, on which the sequels were largely built on once he was given a more human avatar as the creepy Reverend Kane, was omitted completely. The film also lacked the kind of Spielberg touch of the original (It was largely Spielberg's script and he produced it; and it so resembles the feel of an 80's Spielberg there's been considerable debate over whether Tobe Hooper was the film's "real" director).

Think the Russos might be able to do a better job? Would they simply remake it or use it's regular formula (Girl captured by ghosts) or go for some new approach (There were tentative plans for a Poltergeist prequel that would've involved the origin of Kane). Perhaps even consider an actual sequel, with the now adult Carol Ann? (Who would of course be recast-Heather O' Rourke died during the filming of the third film; recasting might be seen as somewhat disrespectful).
