Default What are the main "types" of cartoon characters?

What are some of the main "types" of cartoon characters? So far I'm thinking:

    * Comedic: This would include Looney Tunes, Spongebob, etc.
    * Action Adventure: Superheroes, Magical Girls, etc.
    * Educational/Children's programming: Arthur, Dora the Explorer, etc.
    * Advertising: Tony the Tiger, Cheater Cheetah, etc.

    Anything else?

    Adult.

Like the Heavy Metal movie(s). A lot of anime prob. falls into this category, but not sure if you (as thread starter) would classify that separately.

Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker. That would be them when I was a kid, even as an 80's kid.

There's dramatic or biographical animated characters as well with little/no comedic or action elements... more slice of life type characters, but even some Disney princesses and other characters may fit the bill.

'The Famous Adventures of Mister Magoo' was cartoony drama.

    Adding adult:

    * Comedic: This would include Looney Tunes, Spongebob, etc.
    * Action Adventure: Superheroes, Magical Girls, etc.
    * Educational/Children's programming: Arthur, Dora the Explorer, etc.
    * Advertising: Tony the Tiger, Chester Cheetah, etc.
    * Adult: Family Guy, South Park, etc.

And I guess fantasy? Like most Disney films, and Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, etc.

Sweet little critters like Tweety Bird, Woodstock and the like.

Then there are also the hens, roosters, dogs, cats, mice and ants.

Religious. Perhaps that falls into the "educational" category, but I would consider it more nearly "propaganda".

Porn. I think Archer, Family Guy, South Park ect falls under the mature category. There's also the blend of cartoon/live action like Roger Rabbit and Space Jam.
