Default Where to put the alien portal?

An alien portal is about to open up on Earth in five minutes. Do to a mistake the targeting computer program is sent to your phone/computer, giving you the ability to send it anywhere on the planet. It also informs you that it is for an invading army horde with comparable, but different tech as we have.

Where do you put it, in order to save the Earth?

Technically the core is liquid, but fair enough.

    1. The bottom of the Mariana Trench. Their ships will likely be designed for space travel, i.e. low pressure, rather than massive extremes of pressure.

    2. Failing that, facing down into the caldera of an active volcano.

Oh great, you flood their world and drain the water out of ours. Wilhelmina is going to be happy about THAT one.

Might as well place it at the bottom of The Veryovkina cave , then either seal up the entrance or flood it.

Otherwise, if you want to try diplomacy, open it up in the middle of Antarctica, surrounded by every military fleet on Earth.

How are you going to organize every military fleet in 5 minutes?

Eh, I'll just conquer all of her cities, as usual (one of my favourite victims in that game, along with Peter of Russia and Jayavarman, mainly because those three seem to pop up the most often. Didn't expect that Civ reference here, though).

Back on topic, yeah, the portal facing down some lava sounds like a safe bet to send them back home.

It's because the XKCD threads talk about the Netherlands conquering everything.

This is a fascinating question. Would be nice to know a bit more about the biology of these aliens. Anyway, I immediately thought of the Marianas trench too. But then I thought "Can I put the portal 10,000km up in the air"? The impact from falling from that high up would annihilate anything I'd think.

Real world tech can survive that, as seen by the space ships and planes we have. So they would take extra time to put Parachutes on everything, giving you time to alert the governments.
