Where to put the alien portal?

An alien portal is about to open up on Earth in five minutes. Do to a mistake the targeting computer program is sent to your phone/computer, giving you the ability to send it anywhere on the planet. It also informs you that it is for an invading army horde with comparable, but different tech as we have.

Where do you put it, in order to save the Earth?

Real world tech can survive that, as seen by the space ships and planes we have. So they would take extra time to put Parachutes on everything, giving you time to alert the governments.

Seems like a good plan. Have the portal open inside an active volcano. They might be able to work their way around that eventually, but I'm pretty sure the world would have all kinds of stuff ready to throw at whatever inched its way through that portal by that point.

Leading the way with a nuke-type weapon to clear the area doesn't seem like a particularly smart idea, either.

Yep. Landing in molten lava wouldn't be much fun. It would melt whatever they're wearing to keep safe, the gasses are toxic and un-breathable and they'd be hard pressed to navigate a way out before they died.
